The position supports faculty in design, development, and continuous improvement of high-quality online and hybrid learning experiences. Works collaboratively with faculty to apply instructional design best practices, integrate technology, and enhance student engagement and success. Provides front-line support for Brightspace by D2L Learning Management System by responding to phone calls, emails, and walk-in requests through CTAT support channels. Assists faculty, adjuncts, staff, and students by troubleshooting LMS-related issues, guiding users in the effect us of Brightspace tools, and resolving access, courses, and technical concerns. Develops and delivers training sessions and self-paced training modules on topics such as LMS navigation, course design, digital literacy, and accessibility. Supports college-wide initiatives by helping faculty and staff create accessible course content and web materials in alignment with institutional policies and compliance standards.
Job Duties
Primary Responsibilities (Instructional Support - 70%)
• Support the design, development, and continuous improvement of online, hybrid, and technology-enhanced face-to-face courses incorporating instructional best practices and digital tools.
• Collaborate with faculty to apply instructional design best practices, including alignment of learning objectives, assessments, and activities.
• Collaborate with faculty and CTAT staff to identify opportunities for continuous improvement in course quality, accessibility, and student learning outcomes.
• Promote student engagement through the integration of instructional technologies and digital tools (e.g., Creator+, H5P, and other emerging technologies.).
• Apply accessibility standards (WCAG 2.1AA) and Universal Design for Learning (UDL) principles in course design and development to support equitable and inclusive learning experiences.
• Develop and maintain course templates, instructional resources, job aids, and design guides.
• Develop and maintain self-paced training modules and learning resources for faculty, staff, and students on topics such as course design, digital literacy, accessibility, and instructional technology.
• Facilitate workshops, training sessions, and one-on-one consultations focused on instructional design, digital pedagogy, accessibility, and effective technology integration.
• Stay current with emerging trends, research, and best practices in instructional design, artificial intelligence (AI), and educational technology.
Secondary Responsibilities (LMS Support - 30%)
• Provide front-line support for Brightspace by D2L by responding to phone calls, emails, and walk-in requests through CTAT support channels.
• Troubleshoot LMS-related issues for faculty, adjuncts, staff, and students, including access, course setup, and tool usage.
• Ensure LMS compliance with accessibility standards and contribute to accessibility review initiatives.
• Maintain internal documentation and workflow guides related to LMS processes, tools, and best practices.
• Assist with communication and coordination with D2L technical support in collaboration with the D2L System Administrator.
• Assist with maintaining and updating the CTAT website, ensuring content is accurate, accessible, user-friendly, and compliant with institutional accessibility standards while supporting departmental instructional and support initiatives.
CTAT Employees Expectations:
• Adhere to the assigned work schedule as determined by the supervisor, dean, or the college.
• This is an in-person position based at the Oak Ridge, TN Campus, with some remote work options available at the discretion of the Director and in accordance with college policies.
• Coordinate leave requests, appointments, and planned absences with the Director in accordance with college policies and departmental needs. • Maintain a professional demeanor and represent CTAT positively when interacting with faculty, staff, students, and external partners.
• Participate in a rotating schedule to monitor and respond to the CTAT departmental mailbox during designated periods, including occasional weekends as assigned.
• Maintain accurate project records, dashboards, and status updates to support departmental planning, communication, and accountability.
• Work extended hours as necessary to support project deadlines, training events, system implementations, and departmental priorities consistent with exempt status.
• Prioritize timely and professional responses to CTAT phone calls, emails, and support requests.
• Communicate regularly with CTAT colleagues regarding project status, support requests, and collaborative initiatives.
• Assist with the tracking, collection, and return of departmental equipment and inventory in accordance with established procedures.
• Develop and maintain project timelines, milestones, and deliverables to support the successful completion of assigned initiatives.
Minimum Qualifications
Bachelor's Degree in IT, Computer Science, Instructional Technology, or related field.
2 + years' experience administering and supporting an LMS
LMS testing and QA experience for major updates and rollout of new tools.
Preferred Qualifications
Master's degree in educational technology, Instructional Technology or related field.
Tier 2 LMS support experience.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
Experience with instructional tools (H5P, TurnItIn, Proctoring tools (Verity by YuJa), and Accessibility tools (panorama by YuJa).
Familiarity with accessibility standards (WCAG 2.1 AA, Section 508) and UDL.
Proficiency with Web Tools (WordPress, HTML, CSS, or CMS).
Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
