JOB DESCRIPTION: Mid-Level ComSec Specialist Location: Pentagon (On site, Full time) Clearance Required: TS/SCI (Active) Target Salary: ~$130,000 Overview Apex Systems is seeking a Mid Level Communications Security Specialist to support communications security operations, cryptographic key management, and modernization initiatives for a major DoD program. This role is ideal for a hands on ComSec professional who brings solid technical experience and a proactive approach to problem-solving. Candidates should be comfortable supporting policy development, conducting ComSec reviews, and engaging with senior stakeholders as needed. Key Responsibilities
  • Support ongoing cryptographic modernization activities and assist in implementing new cryptographic standards and technologies.
  • Manage and track cryptographic keys, equipment, and accountability records in accordance with DoD and NSA requirements.
  • Assist in the development and maintenance of ComSec and key management policies, procedures, and technical documentation.
  • Evaluate communication systems to ensure compliance with cryptographic and ComSec requirements.
  • Provide technical input to modernization planning, gap assessments, and system upgrades.
  • Support the preparation of briefings, reports, and analytic summaries for government leadership.
  • Perform daily ComSec "doer" tasks while identifying opportunities for improvement or modernization.
  • Collaborate with senior analysts to execute modernization strategies and resolve technical issues.
Required Qualifications
  • 10+ years of relevant experience AND a bachelor's degree in cybersecurity or related field, OR
  • A bachelor's degree in any field plus a CSSP level certification (or equivalent DoD 8570 qualifying certification).
  • Experience in ComSec operations, key management, cryptographic equipment, or secure communications systems.
  • Familiarity with ComSec policy, NSA guidance, and accountability standards.
  • Strong written communication skills with the ability to contribute to policy or technical documentation.
  • Proactive work style with the ability to operate independently in a mission critical environment.
  • Active TS/SCI clearance.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Prior military experience in communications, intelligence, cyber, or signal fields.
  • Experience with EKMS/KMI, cryptographic hardware, and DoD communication networks.
  • Exposure to cryptographic modernization initiatives or emerging cryptographic technologies.
  • Experience participating in briefings to senior military/government personnel
