STATEMENT OF WORK
COACH (SPORTS)
SUMMARY DESCRIPTION:
Under general supervision of the Principal and/or Athletic Director, is responsible for coaching or advising students of Washoe County School District in a specified athletic or non-athletic Extended Day Duty Activity, requiring a high standard of sound and acceptable coaching/advising practices. The incumbent adheres to a highly efficient and technically sound program of injury prevention and safety precaution. The incumbent performs related work as required.
EXEMPLARY DUTIES/RESPONSIBLITIES
Develops rapport with students and provides sound leadership; responsible for being an example of good sportsmanship; applies discipline in a fair and positive manner and according to prescribed procedures; responsible for the general health and welfare of students and for the actions and conduct of students.
Maintains cooperation with Principal and/or Athletic Director and other Extended Day Duty personal; maintains good communications with the Principal and/or Athletic Director by keeping them informed regarding the overall program, including trips, games, etc.
The incumbent(s) develops a sound system for accountability, upkeep and protection of equipment.
The incumbent (s) develops good public relations in the school and community.
The incumbent attends contests and practice sessions.
The incumbent completes appropriate reports evaluating the activity and makes recommendations for improvements.
EMPLOYMENT STANDARDS
Any combination equivalent to education and experience that could likely provide required knowledge and skills in qualifying. Atypical way to obtain the knowledge and skills would be:
1. Equivalent to a high school diploma. However, it is preferred that individuals applying be teachers presently under contract with Washoe County School District;
AND
2. Some experience participating in and/or functioning as a coach/advisor in this particular activity.
KNOWLEDGE OF: Rules, theory and regulations relating to the specific activity, including rule changes and new developments.
SKILL AT: Providing leadership and developing rapport with students; constructing well organized practices and contests; communicating verbally and in writing; supervising students; and teaching good sportsmanship.
LICENSES/CERTIFICATIONS: Possession of a valid Nevada Teaching Certificate is desirable; a certificate for cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) is required for coaches/advisors involved in an athletic activity.
SPECIAL CONSIDERATIONS: Depending on the activity, incumbents must be willing and able to work on weekends and at various times of the day.
COMPENSATION: This position is not a contracted position and compensation is based on a stipend according to the "Extended Day Duty Scale" negotiated with the Washoe County Teachers Association.

Coaching positions are non-contracted and compensation is based on a stipend according to the Extended Day Duty Scale negotiated with the Washoe Education Association.

New employees will be fingerprinted upon hire, and will have $58.50 deducted from their first paycheck to help defray the cost of fingerprinting. Non-licensed employees will have $58.80 deduction when their fingerprints are completed every five years. Fingerprint fees are subject to change.
The job offer is conditional until a report is returned from the FBI and Nevada Department of Public Safety that meets the standards of WCSD for employment purposes.
