Job description

Private Chef Position - Greater Detroit Metropolitan Area

Elite Private Chefs is seeking an experienced and highly motivated Private Chef to manage all culinary operations for a UHNW private family residence and associated properties. This hands-on role requires exceptional culinary skill, strong organization, and schedule flexibility in a fast-paced, high-expectation household. The Private Chef oversees menu planning and execution, pantry and beverage management, and private events, while accommodating principals and local family members. Professionalism, adaptability, and the ability to respond quickly to changing needs are essential. Long hours and flexibility are required when principals are in residence.

Location: Greater Detroit Metropolitan Area

Schedule: Majority of the year, the schedule averages 40 hours per week, Monday-Friday. During periods when the family is visiting from out of town, days and hours will vary and typically increase to 60+ hours per week, with full availability required while the family is in residence. Some travel may be required

Compensation: $120-$140K with benefits, eligible for medical benefits, 401k, PTO

Key Responsibilities

Culinary Leadership & Meal Execution

  • Plan, prepare, and execute daily meals for principals and additional local family members across all properties
  • Design thoughtful, seasonal menus tailored to individual preferences, dietary needs, and lifestyle
  • Oversee menu preparation and execution for all meals, events, and special occasions
  • Maintain the highest standards of food quality, presentation, and consistency
  • Handle pop-up requests and last-minute changes with efficiency and composure

Pantry, Inventory & Event Support

  • Manage full pantry operations, including sourcing, ordering, stocking, and rotation of all food and beverage items
  • Oversee beverage preferences and inventory, including non-alcoholic and alcoholic selections
  • Maintain detailed inventory systems to ensure freshness, availability, and minimal waste
  • Plan and execute private dinners, gatherings, and special events
  • Coordinate menus, timing, staffing support, and service flow as needed

Kitchen Operations & Food Safety

  • Ensure immaculate kitchen cleanliness and organization at all times
  • Uphold strict food safety, sanitation, and health standards

Professional Collaboration & Flexibility

  • Maintain clear, professional communication with principals, household staff, and management
  • Work seamlessly with assistant chefs and kitchen support staff, leading by example
  • Maintain a flexible schedule based on principals' residency, including long hours, evenings, weekends, and holidays when required
  • Adjust menus, schedules, and workflows quickly as needs change
  • Operate with discretion, humility, and a calm, solution-oriented, no-ego mindset
