About This Position
Fern & Feather Nature Campโ€ฏis seeking individuals to foster experiential nature-based learning for campers. We aim to promote positive youth development, stewardship for the environment, and a respectful and inclusive safe space for all our campers.

Duties & Responsibilities

  • Serve as a vital bridge between camp staff and the camp director
  • Assist with development and teaching of pre-camp and in-service trainings
  • Participate in daily meeting and planning sessions with other staff
  • Create and maintain a physically and emotionally safe environment for campers and staff; make independent safety decisions when needed and abide by and enforce camp policies
  • Lead, motivate, and evaluate staff in a positive environment
  • Assist with the directing day-to-day camp activities and supervising of camp staff
  • Assist with and delegate housekeeping tasks
  • Assist in regular communications with camper families including, but not limited to: photo taking/upload, blog posts, daily letters, drop off and pick up, phone calls home
  • Utilize First Aid/CPR skills as necessary according to campโ€™s standing medical orders
  • Participate in all camp activities such as opening and closing circle, all camp games, and camp clean up
  • Address conflicts, concerns, questions, and issues with campers,parentsand staff
  • Assist with special events and K-12 school programming as needed prior to the start of camp
  • Prepare and facilitate a Thursday Late Night for campers ages 9 to 13.
  • Assist with camp staff evaluations
  • Kayak and snorkel with campers on site in a saltwater pond
  • Substitute teach as necessary
  • Additional related duties may be requested, such as overseeing Counselor in Training programs

Required qualifications as per Massachusetts Department of Public Health (MA DPH) regulations, American Camp Association standards and Mass Audubon Policy:

  • Must be at least 21 years of age
  • Must hold valid driver's license
  • At least two seasons of experience working as part of an administrative staff at a recreational camp for children
  • Provide documented proof of immunity or vaccination record as mandated by MA DPH; complete camp health form and waiver
  • Hold current Firstโ€ฏAid and CPR certifications orparticipatein Mass Audubon provided training to obtain certification prior to the beginning of camp
  • Hold current Lifeguard certification or be willing to obtain prior to the start of camp
  • Comfortable with watercraft activities, such as kayaking, stand up paddleboarding, snorkeling, and/or boating
  • Willing to be outdoors for several hours per day in most weather conditions
  • Ability to physically access sanctuary terrain and trails easily by foot
  • Ability to effectively interact with others, especially children, in campโ€™s youth-centered environment
  • Ability to adapt to changes in schedule and work assignment

Desired Qualifications

  • Experience working in nature-based learning environments
  • Strong interest or related education experience in Environmental Studies, Biology, Conservation, Education, or related field
  • Familiarity with regional natural history, wildlife conservation, or other applicable natural history topics

Work Schedule

This position starts May 4th and ends August 21st, 2026. From May 4th through June 9th, this position will be 30 hours per week. Camp staff training will be held from June 10th through June 18th, 2026, 8:00 AM to 4:00 PM. Camp runs from June 22nd through August 14th, 2026. Hours for this position during the camp session are 8:00 AM to 4:00 PM Monday through Thursday; 5:30 PM to 9:30 PM on Thursday; and 8:00 AM to 12:00 PM on Friday.


Compensation and Benefits
This positionโ€™s pay range is $21.50 - $24.00 per hour; actual pay will be determined based on experience level, qualifications relative to position requirements, and location of the position. This is not a benefits eligible position.

Shared staff housing may be available for rent. Housing is available on a first come, first serve basis. Seasonal housing is for the employee only. No pets are allowed except for an approved service animal.

Training Requirements
All Mass Audubon Camp Staff undergo mandatory training prior to interacting with campers. Training includes: Natural History, Lesson Planning, Behavior Management, Games, and more.

Employees must successfully complete a CORI and SORI Background Check and a Motor Vehicle Record (if applicable) is required.
