Hours/Schedule: Part-Time (24 hours/week + Rotating On-Call Coverage); schedule is flexible
Compensation: $28.00-$34.00/hour (+ $3/hour on-call pay)

Overview
Our client, a growing biotechnology organization in Rockville, MD, is seeking a Facilities Specialist to support daily facilities operations and critical building systems across its research campus. This position combines hands-on facilities maintenance, contractor coordination, and emergency response while supporting laboratory, office, and vivarium operations. The ideal candidate is mechanically inclined, proactive, and comfortable working independently in a regulated research environment.
Responsibilities
  • Monitor, troubleshoot, and support critical building systems, including HVAC, electrical, plumbing, boilers, humidifiers, and BMS.
  • Respond to after-hours facility emergencies within a one-hour response time during assigned on-call rotations.
  • Coordinate contractors, vendors, security, janitorial services, pest control, and maintenance activities.
  • Perform routine facility inspections, preventative maintenance coordination, and safety readiness checks.
  • Support office moves, workstation setup, conference room preparation, onboarding activities, and general facilities operations.
  • Assist with shipping/receiving, mail services, and other building support functions as needed.
  • Ensure compliance with safety procedures, PPE requirements, and facility operating standards.

Requirements
  • High School Diploma or equivalent.
  • 5+ years of facilities or building maintenance experience supporting critical building systems.
  • Strong mechanical aptitude with experience supporting HVAC, electrical, plumbing, boilers, humidifiers, or similar utility systems.
  • Experience coordinating contractors and vendors within a commercial, laboratory, healthcare, manufacturing, or other regulated environment.
  • Comfortable participating in an on-call rotation with a one-hour emergency response requirement, including evenings, weekends, and holidays.
  • Ability to lift up to 50 pounds, climb ladders, and access rooftop mechanical equipment.
  • Comfortable working in a research environment that includes vivarium operations.
