Job description

Primary Location: United States (US) - North Dakota  - Fargo   

As an Engineering Technician Intern with John Deere in Fargo, ND, you will:

Assist in supporting engineering and production through methods improvement, troubleshooting and repair, regular maintenance, equipment programming, and process/work instruction development for productions and equipment.

Job details are dependent on duties assigned but in general consist of the following:

  • Provide basic technical support to assigned production teams to assist in the resolution of problems during manufacturing.
  • Participate in the development and maintenance of basic programs, processes, and assembly procedures for the manufacture of products under the guidance of engineers.
  • Assist in the repair, setup, qualification and maintenance of basic mechanical, electrical, and pneumatic functions for a minimal number of production equipment and smart fixtures.
  • Correspond with technical support via telephone, e-mail, verbal, or other means to resolve technical issues appropriately.
  • Assist in training operators on production equipment and processes.
  • Assist engineers in the design and fabrication of basic production fixtures, jigs, and simple machines.
  • Willingness to work independently and within a team-based environment as required.
  • Perform basic research, gather, and summarize data for use in determining errors and root cause. Provide recommendations for problem resolution or process improvement. May support implementation.
  • Perform other associated tasks as required by supervisor and manager.
  • Clean work area and perform other miscellaneous duties inherent to the job.

This is a first shift (day) position.

Minimum Qualifications: 

  • Must be at least 18 years of age.
  • Must have at least one of the following:
    • High School Diploma or G.E.D.
    • National Career Readiness Certificate (NCRC)
    • At least 3 years of manufacturing work experience
  • Must currently be enrolled in an A.S. or certificate program in a related technical field at North Dakota State College of Science.
  • Experience with computers and Microsoft Office tools (Word, Excel, Outlook, etc.).
  • Ability to perform manual tasks related to described job duties for duration of work shift; including but not limited to frequent standing, walking, bending, and lifting.
  • Ability and willingness to work 1st shift and potential overtime (including weekends).

  • A general understanding of diagnostic equipment and manufacturing equipment.
  • Understanding of troubleshooting methodologies to identify root cause.
