Job description

Anderson University invites applications for a full-time, nine-month contract faculty position as an Assistant Professor of Biology within the Natural Sciences Department, beginning August 2026. This Tenure-Track position reports to the Natural Sciences Department Chair, the Dean for the College of Arts and Sciences, and the University Provost.

Responsibilities
The primary responsibilities of this faculty position include:
Teaching & Instruction (Core Focus)
  • Teach a full course load (24 credit hours annually) of undergraduate biology courses, which will include, but are not limited to:
    • Anatomy and Physiology I and II (with labs)
    • Human Gross Anatomy and Histology (with labs)
    • Foundations of Modern Biology I and II (with labs)
    • Bioethics
    • Other introductory and upper-level biology courses with accompanying laboratories, as needed by the department.
  • Course Assessment and Curriculum Development: Actively participate in the assessment of student learning outcomes and contribute to ongoing curriculum review and development within the department.
  • Supervision: Supervise and mentor student lab assistants.
Service & Engagement
  • Academic Advising: Provide dedicated academic advising to students within the department and college.
  • Office Hours: Maintain a minimum of eight (8) scheduled office hours per week for student consultation and support.
  • Faculty Service: Actively participate in faculty governance and operations through service on departmental and university-wide committees.
  • Campus Community: Engage actively in the life of the campus community, including attending student activities such as athletic events, musical performances, and other university functions.
  • Chapel: Weekly chapel attendance is expected as part of the university's commitment to its Christian mission.
Professional Development & Reporting
  • Attend required monthly Faculty Meetings.
  • Participate in the required fall and spring Faculty Development Sessions.
  • Submit a comprehensive Annual Report to the Department Chair for review by the Dean of the College of Arts and Sciences.
  • Summer Opportunity: While the position is a nine-month contract with no expectation for instructional duties during the summer months, summer school instructional opportunities are available for additional compensation.

Qualifications
Required Qualifications
  • Education: A Ph.D. in Biology, Biochemistry, or Human Anatomy from an accredited institution. ABD candidates nearing completion may be considered.
  • Commitment: Demonstrated commitment to undergraduate education within a liberal arts context and a personal commitment to the mission and values of Anderson University.
  • Expertise: Expertise and experience in teaching multiple courses from the required list (Anatomy and Physiology, Human Gross Anatomy, Foundations of Modern Biology, etc.).
Preferred Qualifications
  • Previous university-level teaching experience.
  • Experience with course and program assessment.

The selected candidate will have a passion to partner with current faculty to support the other programs in the Department of Natural Sciences and the broader institution.

Candidates should have belief in and commitment to Jesus Christ and the Christian faith as interpreted through the historic witness of the Bible and the ongoing ministry of the Holy Spirit. Benefits: This is a full-time, tenure-track position with eligibility for university benefits. This is a 9-month position paid over 12 months. Position available: Beginning August 2026. The review of candidates will begin immediately and continue until the position is filled.
