Certified Medical Assistant — Naval Medical Center 

Immediate Openings | $2,000 Sign-On Bonus | No Weekends or Holidays 


  • Location: Naval Medical Center San Diego and surrounding cities, CA
  • Full TimeSchedule: Monday–Friday, 6:00 AM – 6:30 PM (8.5-hour shifts)
  • Pay: $22.97 – $27.00/hour, based on qualifications, experience, and location
  • Sign-On Bonus: $2,000 (paid after 90 days of service).

We're hiring experienced Certified Medical Assistants to support Naval Medical Center San Diego and its affiliated outpatient clinics. What You'll Do:

Core Duties:

  • Prepare examination rooms prior to each patient's arrival
  • Assist with patient check-ins, admissions, discharges, and transfers as directed
  • Check vital signs, including temperature, respiration, pulse, weight, blood pressure, and pulse oximeter reading
  • Obtain and document patient's current medical history, drug history, chief complaints, allergies, and vital signs on the correct form
  • Perform diagnostic procedures when ordered
  • Maintain examination room stock levels and perform routine maintenance of exam rooms
  • Complete lab and x-ray requisitions in accordance with clinic policies
  • Enter demographic data into the computer upon patient check-in; enter diagnosis and departure time when the patient is released


Department-Specific Duties (as assigned):

  • Internal Medicine/Pediatrics: May include operating equipment such as EKG machines, nebulizers, and infusion pumps; administering medications, injections, and immunizations after required training; performing venipuncture and IV access; and working within systems like MHS Genesis and Carepoint
  • Orthopedic/Maxillofacial Surgery Support: May include supporting the Nurse Practitioner and surgical team, rooming patients, assisting with minor procedures, wound care, suture removal, and coordinating referrals, imaging, and follow-up appointments

Depending on your department assignment (Internal Medicine/Pediatrics or Orthopedic/Maxillofacial Surgery support), you may also take on medication administration, injections, venipuncture/IV access, EHR coordination, and direct support of surgical and specialty providers — great opportunities to grow your clinical skill set.

What You'll Need — Mandatory Qualifications


Experience: Minimum 1 year of experience within the last two years as a CMA — this is required


Education: Graduate of a medical assistant training program accredited by the Commission on Accreditation of Allied Health Education Programs (CAAHEP) or the Accrediting Bureau of Health Education Schools (ABHES), or a formal medical services training program of the U.S. Armed Forces Alternative accreditation also accepted from:

  • Accrediting Commission of Career Schools and Colleges (ACCSC)
  • Independent Colleges and Schools (ACICS)
  • Accrediting Council for Continuing Education and Training (ACCET)
  • Accrediting Commission for Community and Junior College (ACCJC)


Certification: Current certification as a Certified Medical Assistant through the American Association of Medical Assistants, or current registration through the American Medical Technologists, or another formal program


Life Support Certification: Current AHA or ARC BLS Healthcare Provider certification


Security: Must be able to pass a government background check/security clearance
