Job description

We are seeking an experienced Staff Accountant for a contract opportunity with a great organization in the Placentia area. This position will provide hands-on accounting support across general ledger activities, account and bank reconciliations, journal entries, financial reporting, and month-end close. The ideal candidate will have a strong accounting foundation, excellent attention to detail, and the ability to work effectively in a deadline-driven environment.

Responsibilities
  • Prepare journal entries and maintain general ledger accounts.
  • Perform bank and account reconciliations and research discrepancies.
  • Assist with month-end and year-end close.
  • Reconcile AP and AR activity to the general ledger.
  • Prepare financial reports and track revenues and expenditures against budget.
  • Assist with annual audit schedules and supporting documentation.
  • Review accounting transactions for accuracy, proper coding, and documentation.
  • Support additional accounting and finance projects as needed.
Qualifications
  • Bachelorโ€™s degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field preferred.
  • 2+ years of professional accounting experience.
  • Strong knowledge of general ledger accounting, reconciliations, journal entries, and financial reporting.
  • Governmental or fund accounting experience is a plus.
  • Knowledge of GAAP and exposure to GASB preferred.
  • Proficiency in Excel and accounting/ERP systems.
