Job description

Martin Marietta is looking for applicants for Asphalt Quality Control Technicians. This position offers the opportunity to work with your hands and get outdoors. Candidates with experience are preferred, but if you are willing to learn, we are willing to teach! This is a seasonal union role, and membership in the IUOE Local 49 is required.

We are looking for candidates to work at our various metro area asphalt plants.

Essential Functions

  • Sampling and testing of Asphalt mixtures as well as aggregate products.
  • Analyzing test data and record and report results.
  • Calibrate, clean, and maintain production tools and testing equipment.
  • Understanding the process of keeping materials in specification.
  • Communicating with production staff and direct supervisor.

Work Environment

This position operates 80% of the time in a laboratory environment, 20% outdoors.

Physical Demands

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is occasionally required to stand; walk; sit; use hands to feel, or handle objects, tools or controls; reach with hands and arms; climb stairs; balance; stoop, kneel, bend, crouch or crawl; and talk or hear. The employee must frequently lift or move up to 50 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by the job include close vision, distance vision, peripheral vision, depth perception and the ability to adjust focus.

Position Type/Expected Hours of Work

This is a full-time seasonal position that regularly requires long hours, regularly exceeding 40+ hours per week. Night and weekend work is a possibility. Overtime and night work shift differentials apply. This job will require travel to multiple sites. There will be times when outside assignments may require periods of work in all weather conditions-heat, cold, wet, or dry. May have exposure to dust, sand, gravel, diesel exhaust, etc.

Required Education and Experience

  • High school diploma or equivalent
  • Valid, unrestricted driver's license with clean driving record
  • Strong computer and organizational skills
  • Willing to travel to various plant locations on a day-to-day basis
  • Desire for hands on work in a fast-paced environment

Additional Eligibility Qualifications

  • MNDOT Aggregate Production Certification, or ability to obtain within 12 months
  • MNDOT Bituminous Plant 1 Certification, or ability to obtain within 12 months

We are excited to share the base salary rate for this position is $28.42 - $38.57. Conditions and terms of employment and benefits are in accordance with the collective bargaining agreement for the International Union of Operating Engineers (IUOE) Local 49.

This is a safety-sensitive role and Martin Marietta will continue to require drug testing that does include testing for cannabis/THC.
