Job description

The Levy Group of Companies is seeking a Field Density Technician to work at our Ace- Saginaw location. This position will support Lapeer, Genesee and Shiawassee Counties. The Field Density Technician tests materials and assists in maintaining or modifying aggregate gradations to meet customers' demands, using moderately complex testing methods and equipment. 
 

If you are new to the workforce or switching careers, unsure of what you want to do for a living, and the idea of a life spent in an office makes you unhappy because the best part of your day is when both your hands and your boots get fresh dirt on them, our Field Density Tech opportunity might just be what you're seeking. No experience is needed, this is an entry-level position that will allow you to gain on-the-job training.

The Density Technician is involved with the initial set-up of large asphalt compactors, making necessary adjustments to the compactors and rolling patterns, and monitoring density through daily paving operations using Pavement Quality Indicators.

The Field Density Tech will also have the opportunity to attend Ferris Construction Institute after the training period to complete the following certifications:

  • Density Certification
  • Aggregate Certification
  • Loose HMA sample certification

Shift: Day; weekend availability

Responsibilities:

The Field Density Tech will:

  • Administering core samples process
  • Collecting samples
  • Testing in-place density on asphalt pavement
  • Take hot mix samples from behind a paver
  • Must be willing to work varying hours including nights and weekends
  • Will perform other manual tasks as assigned per supervisor
  • Other construction-related duties as required

Skills:

The ideal candidate will have:

  • Basic computer skills
  • Basic math skills
  • Valid driver's license with a good driving record
  • High school diploma or equivalency
  • Ability to sit, stand, and walk for extended periods
  • Tolerate noise and temperature variations
  • Lift up to 50 pounds
  • Climbing ladders, scaffolding, and stockpiles
  • Ability to operate a motor vehicle
