Lone Star Paving is a paving contractor operating in the Central Texas region with paving crews, HMA, aggregate, trucking, milling, and quality control. Our operations complete heavy highway and civil projects throughout Texas. We pride ourselves in being a family-oriented organization with a goal of upholding the safety and health of our number one asset, our employees.
Position Overview
The Asphalt Roller Operator is an integral part of the asphalt team that works with the crew foreman with primary responsibilities of operating a roller machine to tamp down and smooth out the asphalt that has been laid, making sure the asphalt is smooth and level. The ideal candidate is familiar with rolling machines of different types and has a thorough understanding of asphalt paving operations.
Key Responsibilities
  • Must be able to run, maneuver, and drive the asphalt roller machine.
  • Heavy equipment experience is a plus.
  • Inspects equipment before operating to make sure it is in good working order and ready for the day, including post shift inspection for the same.
  • Practices awareness of others working along side the machines, and exercises safety practices at all times. Safety is essential!
  • General laborer duties associated with asphalt paving, patching or prep crews.
  • Will be expected to leave the machine as required by foreman and job perimeters to help shovel, rake, and handle other small tools.
  • Prior to concluding a shift, equipment must be cleaned and organized to company standards.
  • May be called upon to run small power tools.
  • Signal operators of construction equipment to facilitate alignment and movement of materials.
  • Assist in the placement, moving, and dismantling of signs, barricades, cones and other traffic control devices.
  • Perform other duties as requested and assigned

Qualifications
  • 1 year (or under) experience
  • Must be organized with a detail-oriented mindset.
  • Must be positive, friendly, and professional.
  • Ability to work well with others in a group or one-on-one setting.
  • Promote, execute and adhere to the company's safety policy, and encourage all employees, subcontractors and consultants to adopt safety as a culture.
  • Work in a safe, responsible manner to not intentionally or unintentionally injure oneself, or endanger the wellbeing of others.
  • Promote a team approach and maintain dialogue with all employees to exchange information and gather ideas.
  • Collaborate with any project teams on other special initiatives, as required.

Knowledge/Skill Requirements
  • Entry Level Position
  • Working knowledge of asphalt production and associated equipment, and an understanding of operations and safety requirements is preferred.
  • Familiarity with OSHA regulations, a plus
  • High School Diploma or GED preferred, but not required

Working Conditions
  • Be available for overtime, extended hours, night shifts, and weekends as required.
  • Some travel may be required as our operations span throughout Texas.
  • Work is performed in an outdoor setting, which could include but not be limited to inclement weather, heat and humidity, and exposure to dust and asphalt.
  • Must comply with the company's drug and alcohol testing requirements.
  • Use of Personal Protection Equipment is required.
  • Proper PPE is required at all times.
