Asp Net Developer Startup information

What unique challenges might an ASP.NET Developer face when working at a startup compared to a larger company?

As an ASP.NET Developer at a startup, you may encounter a fast-paced environment where you'll often wear multiple hats, such as contributing to both backend and frontend tasks, and sometimes even assisting with deployment or infrastructure. Startups frequently require rapid prototyping and quick iteration based on changing requirements or customer feedback, which means you'll need to be comfortable with ambiguity and shifting priorities. Collaboration with cross-functional teams—including product managers, designers, and other developers—is typically close-knit and direct, offering valuable learning opportunities but also requiring strong communication skills. Career growth can be accelerated due to exposure to a wide range of technologies and responsibilities, but it may also come with fewer formal structures for mentorship or advancement.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as an ASP.NET Developer in a startup environment, and why are they important?

To thrive as an ASP.NET Developer in a startup, you need strong proficiency in C#, .NET frameworks, web development, and typically a degree in computer science or related field. Familiarity with tools like Visual Studio, Azure DevOps, version control systems (e.g., Git), and relevant certifications such as Microsoft Certified: Azure Developer Associate are highly valuable. Adaptability, problem-solving, and effective communication are standout soft skills, especially in fast-paced and collaborative startup teams. These skills are crucial for efficiently building scalable solutions, quickly iterating on products, and contributing to the startup's growth and agility.

Systems Administrator

Menlo, Inc.

Kansas City, MO • On-site

Full-time

Posted 27 days ago

Job description

Description:

Menlo’s purpose is to create better technologies to solve problems for clients in school districts and communities nationwide. When schools spend less time making technology work, they can spend more time doing what they do best: educating children. And when educators can focus on students, we help them achieve their goal of life transformation.

From our roots as a startup, we’ve evolved into a firmly established corporation while retaining the hunger and drive of our entrepreneurial beginnings. At Menlo, our mission is to go beyond “good enough” and provide technology solutions that shape a better future for both our clients and the generations to come.

About the Role

You will provide support to our clients’ internal systems as well as shared hosted infrastructure platforms. This role is responsible for the effective installation, deployment, support, and administration of servers, software, and related systems.

This position is ideal for someone who:

  • Enjoys independent, heads-down technical work.
  • Takes pride in accuracy, documentation, and systems that “just work.”
  • Likes a structured, fast-paced environment where issues are owned end-to-end and solved methodically.

You’ll be a key technical specialist on the team—more focused on deep expertise and process management than people management.

What You’ll Do

  • Oversee maintenance and optimization of VMware/vSphere virtualization and storage environments.
  • Administer and support Windows servers and related infrastructure services.
  • Manage server and network monitoring tools; respond to alerts and performance issues.
  • Manage application installation, upgrades, and maintenance across client and hosted environments.
  • Plan and execute server migrations, upgrades, and other infrastructure projects.
  • Automate repetitive tasks (e.g., with PowerShell or similar) and create clear documentation/runbooks for future use.
  • Provide timely, factual updates to users and internal teams regarding efforts to resolve complex issues.
  • Manage multiple tasks and incidents simultaneously while maintaining service level agreements.
  • Follow established change-management processes and security standards.
  • Perform all other duties as assigned.
Requirements:

What You Bring

  • 5+ years of technical experience in systems administration or systems engineering in a production environment.
  • Excellent troubleshooting skills at scale (multi-site or distributed environments).
  • Strong knowledge of Windows Server, virtualization, and core infrastructure services (AD, DNS, DHCP, file/print).
  • Familiarity with Nimble SAN, Dell & Cisco servers, and monitoring platforms such as PRTG (or similar).
  • Understanding of scripting languages such as Windows Command Shell and PowerShell.
  • Advanced experience administering Google Workspace for Education and Microsoft within a K-12 environment.
  • Familiarity with PaperCut to assist users, manage print queues, and troubleshoot as needed.
  • Experience with SCCM for software packaging, application deployment and patch management.
  • Outstanding oral and written communication skills, with the ability to translate complex technical concepts into clear, accessible language for audiences with varying levels of technical expertise.
  • Experience working both independently and in a team-oriented environment; a high level of availability and ownership to resolve problems.
  • Highly self-motivated and capable of maintaining a high attention to detail in a fast-paced, structured environment.
  • Experience with applications used in an educational environment preferred.
  • Microsoft Certified: Windows Server Hybrid Administrator Associate, Net+, Sec+, or other relevant certifications preferred.
