What is an ASC manager?

ASC Managers, or Ambulatory Surgery Center Managers, are professionals responsible for overseeing the daily operations of ambulatory surgery centers. They manage staff, ensure compliance with healthcare regulations, maintain quality patient care, and handle budgeting and resource allocation. Their role is crucial for ensuring that surgical procedures are carried out efficiently and safely in a non-hospital setting. ASC Managers often work closely with physicians, nurses, and administrative staff to optimize both clinical and financial performance of the center.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as an ASC manager?

To thrive as an ASC (Ambulatory Surgery Center) Manager, you need a solid background in healthcare administration, regulatory compliance, and financial management, often supported by a relevant degree or healthcare management certification. Familiarity with electronic health record (EHR) systems, scheduling software, and compliance platforms is typically required. Strong leadership, effective communication, and problem-solving skills help manage staff and ensure efficient operations. These skills are vital for maintaining high standards of patient care, regulatory adherence, and the financial health of the surgery center.

What are some common challenges an ASC manager faces in coordinating surgical schedules and how can they be addressed?

As an ASC Manager, one of the most frequent challenges is balancing the surgical schedule to maximize efficiency while accommodating surgeons' preferences and patient needs. Job description

Who we are

More efficient. More accurate. More accessible. Exol is bringing industry-leading automation to businesses of all sizes through an innovative warehouse-as-a-service model.

What we need

The Tax Manager owns Exol's tax compliance, reporting, and planning across a rapidly expanding multi-state footprint and a global capability center. Reporting to the VP, Finance, this hands-on role manages federal, state, and local income, sales-and-use, and property tax; prepares the tax provision; captures available credits and incentives as new sites open; and manages the outside advisors and authorities that support the function.

Who we are

Exol is building the Robotic Logistics Platform built for tomorrow. Carved out from Symbotic, Exol operates a growing national network of automated fulfillment centers, pairing robotics and software with a directly employed operations workforce. As we open new sites across the country and scale a global capability center, we are building the finance team that keeps that growth compliant and tax-efficient.

What you'll do

Tax compliance & reporting

  • Manage timely, accurate federal, state, and local income and franchise tax filings across Exol's multi-state footprint.
  • Own sales-and-use and property tax compliance for fulfillment centers and facilities - including nexus determination, registrations, and exemption-certificate management as new states come online.
  • Prepare and review the income tax provision (ASC 740) for financial reporting and support the external audit.

Planning, credits & strategy

  • Identify and implement tax-planning opportunities, credits, and incentives - including location-based and job-creation credits tied to new distribution-center openings.
  • Support M&A and due-diligence activities and entity structuring from a tax perspective.
  • Manage transfer-pricing and cross-border tax considerations related to the global capability center.

Audits, risk & controls

  • Manage tax audits, notices, and inquiries; maintain documentation, calendars, and controls; monitor legislative and regulatory changes and assess their impact.

Vendors, systems & partnering

  • Select and manage external tax advisors and outsourced preparers, overseeing quality, timeliness, and cost.
  • Improve tax data and processes within the ERP and Workday/ADP environment, including multi-state payroll-tax considerations.
  • Partner with Finance, Legal, Operations, and Payroll on the tax implications of site expansion, the transportation network, and workforce decisions.

What you'll need

  • Minimum 8 years of progressive tax experience across public accounting and/or corporate tax, with required multi-state experience.
  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field; CPA and/or Master's in Taxation strongly preferred.
  • Strong working knowledge of federal and multi-state income, sales-and-use, and property tax, and of the ASC 740 provision.
  • Experience in a high-growth, multi-site, or capital-intensive environment (logistics, supply chain, or industrial preferred); familiarity with site incentives and credits a plus.
  • Familiarity with ERP and Workday/ADP systems; strong tax research, analytical, and documentation skills.
  • Detail-oriented and deadline-driven; a self-starter comfortable being hands-on across many tax types; strong researcher and communicator; trusted with sensitive information; and effective at managing outside advisors and working at pace through change.
