Job description

This Opportunity

WSP is currently initiating a search for an Asbestos Sampling Technician for our Novi, MI office.  Be involved in projects with our Earth and Environment Team and be a part of a growing organization that meets our client's objectives and solves their challenges.

Your Impact
  • Asbestos abatement air monitoring
  • Air monitoring of other constituents including silica, lead, and particulate material.
  • Onsite analysis of asbestos PCM air samples
  • Conduct asbestos-containing materials surveys
  • Other building materials sampling requirement may include paints, PCB bulk products and concrete.
  • Adherence to health and safety plans, work plans, and other project guidance documents
  • Monitor project phasing plans and contractors' work to ensure quality control and contract 
  • ompliance; documenting work progress and issues arising throughout scope of project.
  • Work with cross-functional teams in executing project work.
  • Attend pre-construction meetings and answer questions from contractors and other attendees.
  • Assist with calculating payments due to contractors for work completed.
  • Work collaboratively with other professionals, scientists, engineers, inspectors, project control, and technicians on assigned inspection phases, checks, and tasks.
  • Engage in occasional contact with client and contractor personnel to schedule and coordinate project inspection.
  • Exercise responsible and ethical decision-making regarding company funds, resources and conduct, and adhere to WSP's Code of Conduct and related policies and procedures.
  • Perform additional responsibilities as required by business needs.
Who You Are

Required Qualifications

  • High School Diploma/GED
  • 3+ years experience
  • Michigan specific licenses or certifications: Asbestos Inspector, Asbestos Project Manager, Asbestos Air Monitoring Technician, NIOSH 582
  • Experience overseeing abatement contractors
  • Experience with Federal and State regulations related to asbestos and other regulated materials abatement
  • Strong verbal, and inter-personal skills
  • Good time-management skills. Ability to focus and attention to detail
  • Must be organized and able to communicate clearly
  • Team player and technical contributor
  • Able to operate within scope, schedule and budget during project implementation
  • Must be able to pass a HAZWOPER physical and be medically able to wear a tight-fitting respirator / Fit for Duty Exam / Medical Exam.
  • Must pass drug test, background check and must have a satisfactory driving record in accordance with the Company's driving (MVR) policy
     

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Associate's Degree in closely related discipline is preferred.
  • Related licenses or certificates in other states including: Ohio, Kentucky, Illinois and Indiana
