Job description

GENERAL JOB DESCRIPTION:
This position is responsible for all phases and aspects of mechanical testing. The position may
also assist with work in other areas of the laboratory as necessary.
This position is also responsible for supporting the main laboratory testing activities and day to
day operations as directed by the Shift Supervisor, Group Leader, Lab Supervisor, and Lab
Engineer.
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:
May perform any or all Mechanical Lab duties as follows:
1. Sample preparation of all mechanical and chemistry samples.
2. Performs maintenance and daily calibration on various testing equipment.
3. Entering of test results into the AS400.
4. Maintains hard copy results of calibration and test results.
5. Performs sample preparation work in the metallography lab such as grinding and
polishing.
6. Performs grain, corrosion and bend testing with result evaluation.
7. Trains other technicians for back up purposes.
8. Documents testing procedures/results and stores in the proper locations.
9. Understands and utilizes the sample archive and logging system.
10. Performs special work order testing for QC and other department
SUPPLEMENTAL JOB FUNCTIONS:
1. Other duties as assigned
2. Participation in relevant continuous improvement programs.
3. Training in new testing procedures or other labs.
MINIMUM EDUCATION, SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE:
A High School Diploma or GED Equivalency is required. The ability to multi-task and to pay attention to
detail is strongly preferred.
PHYSICAL ABILITIES REQUIRED:
• Mobility in plant
• While performing the duties of (this job), the employee is regularly required to sit, stand,
walk, etc.
• The employee is frequently required to make use of their hands for technical tasks
• The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 50 pounds
• Visual ability with or without correction
• Communication abilities
HEALTH AND SAFETY:
1. Work in compliance with the Occupational Health and Safety Act and regulations
2. Follow Company safety rules
3. Report the absence of or defect in any protective equipment or clothing to the Supervisor
or Manager immediately
4. Use or wear the equipment, protective devices or clothing that is required to be used or

c. Hearing protection
d. Hard Hat
Some areas may require additional personal protective equipment such as:
e. Respirators; the respirator requires you to be clean shaven in order to comply with
company policies and procedures as well as OSHA Regulations.
f. Fire Retardant clothing
g. Acid PPE
5. Report to the Safety Coordinator, Group Lead or Supervisor any contravention of the
Occupational Health and Safety Act and Regulations or Company policy
6. Must follow all Lock out Tag out (LOTO) guidelines for designated machines
7. Must follow all Environmental Policies and Regulations
8. Maintain a clean and safe work area
