Description
The Teen Arts Unit of the Arts and Cultural Heritage Division of the Maryland-National Capital Park and Planning Commission (M-NCPPC) is seeking a passionate and dynamic Teen Arts Instructor.
The ideal candidate will inspire creativity, confidence, and collaboration while fostering artistic expression and cultural appreciation. This role supports a mission to cultivate cultural enrichment and personal growth through the visual arts.

Examples of Important Duties
  • Must be available to work special events, festivals, and recurring workshops.
  • Must be able to work evenings and/or nights, including weekends.
  • Must have some experience in business/entrepreneurial fields and visual art.
  • Develop, implement, and oversee a comprehensive curriculum that integrates arts education with entrepreneurship, branding, and workforce readiness.
  • Plan, coordinate, and lead engaging workshops in areas such as visual arts and digital media.
  • Provide mentorship and guidance to program participants, supporting skill development, portfolio creation, creative business concepts, and creative business pitches.
  • Establish program goals, track outcomes, and prepare reports to evaluate program effectiveness.
  • Coordinate and manage program logistics, including scheduling, materials, and daily operations.
  • Maintaining and reporting accurate records (including reports, journals, surveys, spreadsheets) of interactions with the community using computer applications such as Microsoft Word, Excel, and web-based forms
  • Have a valid driver's license willingness to drive our commission vehicles to various locations.
  • Have the ability to facilitate large group activities while maintaining composure and providing the energy to draw in and engage an audience of participants.
  • Foster an inclusive and supportive environment that encourages self-expression and teamwork.
  • Collaborate with parents, recreation staff, and community partners to ensure program goals align with participant needs and interests.
  • Manage class logistics, including attendance tracking, equipment setup, and safety compliance.
  • Evaluate student progress through observation, feedback, and performance assessments.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications
Required
  • Associate's degree in Performing Arts, Visual Arts, or Business and their related fields (or equivalent combination of education and experience).
  • Must have at least 1 year of teaching in your artistic field.
  • Or an equivalent combination of education and experience totaling four (4) years of experience.
  • Strong communication, organizational, and classroom management skills.
  • Ability to adapt lessons for diverse learning styles and abilities.
Preferred
  • CPR/First Aid certification (or ability to obtain upon hire).

The following information is a summary of benefits extended to all Seasonal employees of the Maryland-National Capital Park and Planning Commission (M-NCPPC). This is for informational purposes only and is subject to change.
Limited Benefits for Seasonal Employees
Health Insurance Plans
You are eligible for specific health insurance benefits if you worked, on average, 30 hours per week during your first 12 months of employment or from October 3rd to October 2nd each subsequent period following your first 12 months of employment. This equates to 1,560 hours over a 12-month period.
If and when you are eligible for benefits, you will receive notification directly from the Health & Benefits Office.
Eligible Employees Pay 35% of the health insurance plan premium and The Commission Pays 65%.
