Job SummaryThe Teacher ApprenticeLiaison is a part-time (10-month, August-May) grant funded position that focuseson building strong, supportive relationships with teacher apprentices to fostertheir professional growth and success in the classroom. Teacher apprentices are employed as teacherassistants in Mississippi school districts while enrolled in USM's onlineelementary education coursework. The Teacher Apprentice Liaison serves as a keysupport professional for these preservice teacher candidates, acting as aconsistent point of connection between the university and partnering schooldistricts and helping to ensure aligned expectations, responsive support, and improvedcommunication.
Primary Duties and Responsibilities
  1. Engages in on-site visits for instructional coaching and mentorship, tracking apprentice progress towards program competencies.
  2. Serves as a liaison between teacher residents, mentor teachers, school administrators, and the University.
  3. Supports and/or delivers professional development in teacher preparation and teacher mentorship.
  4. Contributes to the growth and development of the teacher apprenticeship program through recruitment, outreach, and continuous improvement efforts.
  5. Attends university meetings and programs, including professional development, as appropriate.
  6. Performs other duties as assigned.

Minimum QualificationsMaster's degree in elementary education, educational leadership, or closely related field.
Five years of classroom teaching experience in an elementary or closely-related classroom.
Reliable transportation is required for school visits within the assigned territory.
Knowledge, Skills & Abilities
  • Knowledge of educator preparation.
  • Knowledge of all populations and cultures.
  • Skill in database management, including ability to gather, maintain and accurately report data.
  • Skill in the use of software applications including proficiency in Microsoft Office 365.
  • Skill in both verbal and written communication.
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality.
  • Must have dependable transportation and be willing to travel to school-based internship sites.

Preferred Qualifications
Current Educator License.
Ten years of classroom teaching experience or combined 10 years of teaching and school administration experience.
National Board Certification.
Experience mentoring pre-service or first year teachers.
Experience delivering professional development.
Prior experience supervising/teaching elementary students.
