ABOUT US


As L.A.’s premier performing arts destination, The Music Center convenes artists, communities, and ideas with the goal of deepening the cultural lives of every resident in Los Angeles County. The $80 million nonprofit performing arts organization has three divisions: TMC Arts, TMC Ops, and TMC Business Services.

TMC Arts, The Music Center’s programming engine, provides year-round programming inside The Music Center’s four theatres—Walt Disney Concert Hall, Dorothy Chandler Pavilion, Ahmanson Theatre, and Mark Taper Forum—as well as on Jerry Moss Plaza, at Gloria Molina Grand Park, and in schools and neighborhoods throughout Los Angeles County. TMC Ops manages the theatres, Jerry Moss Plaza, and Gloria Molina Grand Park, which comprise $3 billion in County assets, on behalf of the County of Los Angeles. TMC Business Services includes Advancement, Human Resources, Finance, Tech Services, and Marketing and Communications.


The Music Center is also home to four renowned resident companies—Center Theatre Group, Los Angeles Master Chorale, LA Opera, and LA Phil.


POSITION SUMMARY

Reporting to the Senior Manager of Programs, the Senior Programming Coordinator supports program planning, event execution, administrative coordination, and supervision of part-time event staff. The role helps deliver high-quality, safe, and innovative year-round free public programming that reflects the diverse communities of Los Angeles and advances Gloria Molina Grand Park’s role as L.A.’s Park for Everyone. Programming includes community events, performances, wellness programs, and large-scale events serving up to 50,000 guests.


ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Coordinate and support Gloria Molina Grand Park programs through execution, including administrative duties, research on best practices, coordination, and contributing ideas and support to the development of programming content under the direction of the Senior Manager of Programs.
  • Support the cultivation and maintenance of relationships with artists, cultural organizations, community leaders, and creative partners throughout Los Angeles.
  • Schedule and participate in introductory and ongoing meetings with potential artists, document discussions, and support partnership development.
  • Work closely with the Senior Manager of Programs to contribute creative ideas, shape program concepts, research emerging trends, and develop thoughtful programming that engages diverse communities through arts and culture.
  • Serve as a liaison between Gloria Molina Grand Park and other Music Center departments to foster collaboration.
  • Track programming goals and coordinate project timelines, workflows, and documentation while developing and managing program materials such as event trackers and artist packets.
  • Collect, track, and report program outcomes through established methods such as event debriefs and annual evaluation documents. Support internal learning and evaluation efforts for park programs.
  • Coordinate overall event operations, including artist liaison, contract execution, implementation, staff coordination, and communication among all involved parties.
  • Assist the Senior Manager of Programs with managing Programming Assistant (PA) responsibilities, including conducting interviews, coordinating schedules, facilitating training, and supervising staff.
  • With the assistance of the Music Center’s Business Manager and Senior Manager of Programs, distribute contracts, manage contract-related communications, and obtain critical contract information to support contract administration.
  • Support production logistics, including coordination with the Production Manager, event layout planning, and updating the Master Production Schedule with programming details alongside Sr. Operations Coordinator.
  • Manage hospitality logistics, including artist trailers, event sponsors, backstage needs, credentials, and parking vouchers, and ensure compliance with public health guidelines.
  • Collaborate with the Marketing Team on event signage and review promotional materials to ensure accuracy.
  • Collaborate with the Gloria Molina Grand Park Lease Events Team and maintain positive relationships with staff and external stakeholders.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.


REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS AND SKILLS

  • A minimum of three years of arts, event, or project management experience and/or training; or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • An understanding of the Los Angeles arts and culture sector, including but not limited to music, dance, and/or visual arts, is a plus.
  • Proficient in technology and technology-based communications, with strong computer skills, including Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Access, and Outlook.
  • Must be able to work a flexible schedule, including frequent evenings, weekends, and some holidays.
  • Must have reliable transportation.

  • Strong verbal and written communication skills, including the ability to communicate with empathy, professionalism, and diplomacy while navigating multiple stakeholders.
  • Strong learner with a high level of emotional intelligence and the ability to effectively navigate a fast-paced environment.
  • Strong listening and communication skills, both verbal and written, with strong editing skills.
  • Ability to think creatively and contribute effectively as part of a brainstorming team.
  • Comfortable working with data and preparing both ad hoc and routine reports.
  • Bilingual in English and Spanish preferred.


SALARY

This full-time, non-exempt position offers a competitive hourly range of $27.00 –$34.00, along with a comprehensive total rewards package. SCHEDULE

This position is scheduled for 35 hours per week, typically Monday through Friday from approximately 9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. Work hours may be adjusted as necessary to accommodate special events and business needs, including occasional evenings and weekends. The Music Center currently operates under a hybrid work model, combining remote work with designated onsite team days. Onsite, in-person attendance is required to support live events. This work arrangement is subject to change based on business needs and responsibilities of the position.
