POSITION TITLE: Special Education Case Manager (6-8)
REPORTS TO: Director of Teaching and Learning
POSITION OBJECTIVE: The primary objective of a Special Education Case Manager is to ensure a free appropriate public education (FAPE) and to support the students who receive special education services in the least restrictive environment as it aligns with the mission, vision, pillars of DaVinci Academy.
RESPONSIBILITIES:
Essential Planning and Preparation Responsibilities
  • Demonstrate solid prerequisite knowledge and content pedagogy.
  • Demonstrate knowledge of students' developmental learning, skills, abilities, special medical or learning needs, and cultural heritage.
  • Design lessons with clear, measurable goals that involve an appropriate mix of quality technology programs and engaging learning experiences.
  • Design coherent instruction based on individual student needs.
  • Use data to inform planning and instruction.

Essential Classroom Environment Responsibilities
  • Establish an environment where interactions reflect respect and rapport with genuine warmth and care and where students are encouraged to take learning risks to develop intellectually.
  • Implement and support the school's PBIS program and utilize positive strategies to support the social and emotional development of all students.
  • Ensure standards for student behavior are clear to all students; monitored consistently; and responded to appropriately, successfully, and respectfully.
  • Serve as a member of the building Crisis Intervention Team.

Essential Instructional Responsibilities
  • Provide differentiated instruction to meet all students' needs.
  • Teach approved curriculum.
  • Communicate clear purpose, directions, procedures, and explanations with students, situated within learning, and connected to students' knowledge and experience.
  • Actively engage students in the learning process.
  • Demonstrate flexibility and responsiveness to student learning.

Essential Professional Responsibilities
  • Reflect on teaching and accurately assess a lesson's effectiveness.
  • Maintain accurate student records on learning progress; collect data for reporting student progress on Individualized Education Program (IEP) goals.
  • Regularly communicate with families regarding instructional programs and student progress via newsletters, notes, phone calls, emails, Infinite Campus, etc.; respond to family concerns to successfully engage families in the instructional program.
  • Work to continually improve skills.
  • Collaborate with a variety of team members while maintaining data privacy regulations; be solution-focused and a team player.
  • Demonstrates continued professional growth through participation in continuing education courses, professional activities, and/or organizations.
  • Display a willingness to be observed on a regular basis and welcome feedback and coaching from colleagues and administration.
  • Develop and maintain positive working relationships with the DaVinci Academy community, which includes Faculty, Administration, Staff, Parents, and Students
  • Show professionalism through honesty, integrity, confidentiality, and assurance that all students are fairly served, participate in team or departmental decision-making, and fully comply with school regulations.

Essential Due Process Responsibilities
  • Demonstrate positive leadership and problem solving skills through effective case management of students on caseload.
  • Develop IEPs based on assessment data and student needs.
  • Develop and provide programming based on IEPs; initiate, facilitate, and execute students' IEPs.
  • Write and implement Behavior Intervention Plans (BIPs).
  • Complete required due process procedures within mandated time frames.
  • Facilitate IEP team meetings.
  • Plan and coordinate the work of the special education paraprofessionals, in collaboration with the Paraprofessional Coordinator.

Perform other duties as assigned
Qualifications:
  • Valid Minnesota Teaching License (or ability to obtain), preferred Tier 3 or Tier 4, in relevant field required. (ABS, ASD, EBD, or SLD licensure preferred)
  • Knowledge of various assessments

Position Information:
  • Salary Range: The 2026-2027 salary range for this position is $55,000 to $85,000. Salary offers will consider the candidate's experience, education, skills, and DaVinci Academy's budget. Experienced candidates should expect a salary offer around the midpoint of the salary range.
    • In exceptional cases, salaries exceeding the midpoint may be offered to attract candidates for hard-to-fill positions or those with specialized skills. Such decisions will be evaluated on a case-by-case basis.
  • Duty Days: Modified year round, 188 duty days per year
  • Time Off: 3 days of PTO, and 10 days sick time to accrue
