Position Title: Assistant Professor of Art Therapy

Reports To: Art & Design Division Chair

Program: Art Therapy

Position Summary:

Mount Mary University (MMU) invites applicants to apply for a position as an Assistant Professor of Art Therapy beginning in August 2026. This full-time appointment requires a 12-credit per semester teaching load.

Founded in 1913 by the School Sisters of Notre Dame, Mount Mary University lives out its mission today through providing an education that fosters the development of the whole person. In 2020, MMU became one of two colleges in Wisconsin to be federally designated as a Hispanic-Serving Institution. According to U.S. News and World Report, the university is also ranked as one of the two most diverse universities in the Midwest. We are a community of faculty who value relationships with our students and colleagues, and we are committed to a compassionate, inclusive, and effective undergraduate education deeply rooted in the principles of social justice.

We seek a candidate with expertise in art therapy pedagogy and a passion for working with art therapy majors and minors, as well as first-year students and students outside of the major. The successful applicant will collaborate with art therapy adjunct faculty as well as work in concert with administrators, other faculty, and support staff to promote retention-boosting efforts. We are especially interested in candidates who can teach across the art therapy curriculum, including both introductory and upper-level courses required for majors and minors.

Primary Responsibilities:

  • Teach courses across the art therapy curriculum
  • Participate in developing, revising, and assessing program curriculum
  • Deliver course content in a variety of formats including in-person and hybrid
  • Provide service to the School of Arts & Sciences and the Mount Mary community
  • Engage in ongoing professional development through publication and presentation
  • Advise and mentor undergraduate students within the School of Arts & Sciences
  • Demonstrate an active, on-campus presence and commitment to living out Mount Mary University's values and mission

Qualifications:

  • A Ph.D. or Doctorate in Art Therapy, expressive therapies, or a closely related field (ABD considered if degree is conferred before start date)
  • Registered Art Therapist (ATR) and/or Board Certified Art Therapist (ATR-BC) credential
  • Experience teaching diverse learners using inclusive and trauma-informed practices
  • A demonstrated commitment to working with undergraduate students
