Job description

POSITION SUMMARY: The Division of Art + Design at Bob Jones University is seeking a full-time studio art faculty member who is passionate about helping students grow as makers, thinkers, and Christ-centered creatives. The ideal candidate brings excellence in studio and/or design practice, strong pedagogical skills, and the ability to integrate a biblical worldview naturally into teaching and mentorship. This role engages deeply in a collaborative, team-oriented environment where we prepare students to create with purpose, serve with humility, and pursue their higher calling with skill and conviction.
PRINCIPLE DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
  • Teach 4-5 undergraduate courses per semester in assigned studio or design areas.
  • Deliver instruction that reflects strong competency in relevant art media, design principles, and creative processes.
  • Develop and maintain high-quality course syllabi, assignments, demonstrations, and assessments aligned with program goals.
  • Provide thoughtful critique, timely feedback, and academic advising that helps students grow both technically and spiritually.
  • Hold regular office hours and mentor students in academic planning, creative development, and vocational purpose.
  • Participate actively in divisional committees, initiatives, meetings, and collaborative projects.
  • Contribute to curriculum development, learning outcome assessment, and program improvement.
  • Assist the Division Chair or Dean with additional duties as assigned, including but not limited to:
    • Program coordination
    • Student advising
    • Recommendations for scheduling, curriculum, and divisional planning
    • Accreditation-related projects or documentation
    • Competition and portfolio judging
  • Support recruitment, retention, community-building, and divisional events.
  • Attend Chapel regularly.
  • Maintain ongoing professional development and creative scholarship.
  • Model Christ-like character and actively support the spiritual mission of the University.

REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES:
  • Artistic & Technical Expertise: Proficiency in studio and/or design media with a solid grasp of color theory, composition, visual communication, and contemporary creative practices. Preferably this includes an understanding and use of digital technologies for creative purposes such as drawing and painting.
  • Effective Teaching & Classroom Management: Ability to deliver clear instruction, guide critique effectively, maintain a positive learning environment, and support student growth through timely, constructive feedback while assessing student work with fairness and rigor.
  • Biblical Worldview Integration & Christian Character: Ability to thoughtfully integrate biblical principles throughout course content while modeling Christ-like character, creativity, and professionalism.
  • Communication & Professionalism: Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, a team-oriented mindset, strong organizational habits, and commitment to ongoing professional and creative growth.
