Art Studio Assistant (Federal Work Study)
Job Description
The Studio Assistant supports the daily operations of South Piedmont Community College's Art Building, the Associate in Fine Arts (AFA) Program, and related student activities. This position aids in maintaining the studios, assisting with special projects, and helping promote the program through outreach and social media.
Essential Duties Summary
Studio Supervision & Student Support
-Monitor and supervise students during scheduled Open Lab sessions (VAB 101 & 102).
-Ensure safe and appropriate use of facilities and equipment.
-Assist students with accessing and using tools, materials, and supplies.
Studio & Facility Maintenance
-Maintain cleanliness and order in classrooms, labs, and shared spaces (sweeping, disinfecting surfaces, organizing supplies, cleaning sinks and equipment).
-Track and organize studio materials; take inventories as needed (clay, paper, tools, chemicals).
-Prepare and maintain supplies (sharpening pencils, cutting paper, recycling clay, etc.).
Gallery & Exhibition Assistance
-Help prepare, frame, and install student and faculty artwork for displays and gallery shows.
-Create labels and support exhibition documentation.
-Photograph installations and gallery events as needed.
-Digital Media & Program Promotion
Serve as Social Media Ambassador for the AFA Program: create, manage, and grow the AFA Program's official social media presence.
-Photograph and/or scan student artwork, studios, events, and exhibitions.
-Edit and prepare content for distribution; post approved content and monitor interactions.
-Contribute to marketing and promotional materials (flyers, posters, installations, logos, t-shirt designs, coloring books, publications, etc.).
Student Engagement & Recruitment
-Assist with Art Club activities, including planning meetings, promoting events, and supporting creative projects.
-Help organize and possibly lead short workshops or demos for students.
-Support outreach and recruitment by documenting student work, promoting the AFA program, and representing the program at events.
Event & Project Assistance
-Support special projects, departmental events, and promotional campaigns (set-up, take-down, documentation).
-Run campus errands as needed (deliveries, mail, printshop pick-ups, etc.).
Required Qualifications

โ€ข Mature, Dependable, and Responsible Behavior;
โ€ข Familiarity with the Visual Arts Building, art materials and safety practices;
โ€ข Continuous enrollment as a student at South Piedmont Community College for the duration of employment;
โ€ข Comfortable answering student questions and inquiries;
โ€ข Excellent Organizational and Communication Skills;
Preferred Qualifications
โ€ข Computer Skills: Especially Microsoft Office/Excel/PowerPoint, and Canva
โ€ข Skilled at Photography, Scanning, and Editing Photos
โ€ข Skilled at Framing, Matting, and Mounting Artwork and Photography.
โ€ข Skilled at making artwork, including Painting, Digital Art, Graphic Design.
โ€ข Good Reading, Writing, and Math Skills
Physical Demands
Special Conditions Eligibility Summary
Students must have completed a current year's FAFSA, be eligible for Federal Financial Aid, be enrolled at South Piedmont Community College, be making Satisfactory Academic Progress (GPA of 2.000 or higher, a completion rate of 67% or higher, not exceeding the maximum timeframe of 150%) to apply.
