Army In Demand information

What's the easiest job to get in the Army?

The easiest jobs to get in the Army are often entry-level positions such as infantry or administrative roles, which typically have higher availability and less specialized requirements. These roles usually require basic training and a high school diploma or equivalent, making them accessible for many recruits.

What Army jobs are in high demand?

Army jobs in high demand include Military Police, Combat Engineers, Cyber Operations Specialists, and Medical Personnel. These roles often require specialized training, security clearances, and physical fitness, reflecting the current needs for security, technology, and healthcare support within the military.

Can you make $100,000 in the military?

Earning $100,000 in the military is possible for high-ranking officers or specialized roles with bonuses and allowances, but most enlisted personnel and lower ranks earn less. Advancement, additional certifications, and experience can increase earning potential over time.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as an Army soldier, and why are they important?

To thrive as an Army soldier, you need physical fitness, discipline, and a high school diploma or equivalent, along with successful completion of basic training. Familiarity with military equipment, weapons systems, and technology platforms like communication radios is essential. Teamwork, adaptability, and resilience are standout soft skills for operating effectively in challenging and unpredictable environments. These skills and qualities are crucial for ensuring mission success, personal safety, and effective collaboration within the Army.

Can you join the Army with bipolar?

The Army generally requires applicants to be mentally and physically fit, and having bipolar disorder can disqualify candidates due to concerns about stability and medication use. However, each case is evaluated individually, and a medical waiver may be possible if the condition is well-managed and does not impair functioning. It is important to disclose medical history honestly during the enlistment process.

What are some common challenges faced by Army recruits during initial training, and how can they best prepare for them?

Army recruits often find initial training physically and mentally demanding, with challenges including rigorous physical fitness requirements, adapting to a structured environment, and learning teamwork under pressure. Preparing in advance by building physical endurance, practicing time management, and developing resilience can help ease the transition. Additionally, recruits benefit from familiarizing themselves with basic military customs and maintaining a positive, adaptable attitude. Support from fellow recruits and open communication with instructors are also key to overcoming early obstacles.

Job Description:

Job Title

US Army Business Development Manager

Collaborate with Innovative 3Mers Around the World

Choosing where to start and grow your career has a major impact on your professional and personal life, so it's equally important you know that the company that you choose to work at, and its leaders, will support and guide you. With a wide variety of people, global locations, technologies and products, 3M is a place where you can collaborate with other curious, creative 3Mers.

This position provides an opportunity to transition from other private, public, government or military experience to a 3M career.

The Impact You'll Make in this Role

As a U.S. Army Business Development (BD) Manager, you will lead 3M's U.S. Army growth and engagement strategy - working cohesively with business units to shape demand for 3M before requirements are written and convert that early influence into funded programs of record. Here you will make an impact by:

  • Developing and executing 3M's U.S. Army engagement strategy across the Army User, requirements, acquisition, and science and technology communities, key prime contractors and platform providers
  • Winning Requirements & Programs of Record: positioning 3M's capabilities into programs by engaging the Army's requirements and acquisition enterprise- the user and requirements community, Army Material Command (AMC) and its subordinate material and sustainment commands as well as the Army's Portfolio Acquisition Executives (PAEs).
  • Early Shaping & Requirements Seeding: building demand before a requirement is fully defined or funded by working with the same enterprise points as above plus the federal laboratories and engineering centers and the Army's innovation ecosystem (Army FUZE, Army Applications Laboratory (AAL), xTech...) with the goal of converting that early shaping into funded demand.
  • Translating customer requirements into actionable internal strategy and execution across 3M's highly matrixed, multi-disciplined organization.
  • Building and managing a disciplined opportunity pipeline- qualifying, forecasting and maintaining a Salesforce CRM so the organization has an actionable view of current demand.
  • Building and maintaining strong relationships with key decision makers and influences across the Army, its acquisitions enterprise (including PAEs and CPEs) associated organizations, consortia and prime contractors.
  • Delivering compelling executive-level briefings, proposals and strategic engagement plans to senior 3M and customer stakeholders.
  • Driving the use of 3M products and technologies by providing sound business development strategies to relevant 3M stakeholders, informed by monitoring, analyzing, and anticipating market trends, competitor activity, and customer needs.
  • Providing strategic direction and leadership to 3M's cross-functional teams- spanning divisions, product management, channel, contracts, legal, and finance - to integrate 3M's materials, technology, and capabilities into U.S. Army systems.

Your Skills and Expertise
To set you up for success in this role from day one, 3M requires (at a minimum) the following qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree or higher (completed and verified prior to start) from an accredited institution
  • Seven (7) or more years of experience working with or engaging key US Army organizations in a private, public, government or military environment
  • Five (5) or more years of experience advising on and specifying materials, technology and capabilities into US Army systems
  • Named, current relationships within the U.S. Army User, requirements, acquisition, or science and technology community, exercised within the last three years
  • Ability to obtain and hold a DoD Security Clearance (Active Secret clearance preferred)

Additional qualifications that could help you succeed even further in this role include:

  • Demonstrated ability to shape requirements and achieve design-wins- not only to capture already-funded competitions
  • Demonstrated ability to orchestrate across functions (product management, channel, contracts, legal, finance, etc.) in a highly matrixed, multi-disciplined environment
  • Familiarity with the Federal Acquisition Regulation (FAR)
  • Prior military service in the US Army is highly desired but not required
  • Proven leader with a track record of success in business development, sales and achieving business results
  • Experience and proficiency with Microsoft Office suite and Salesforce.com
  • Excellent communication, negotiation and presentation skills
  • Strategic thinker with strong analytical and problem-solving skills
  • Experience with federal and defense market intelligence platforms such as GovWin IQ, Bloomberg Government (BGOV), and DACIS
