Summary/Objective

The Equipment Maintenance Technician is responsible for maintaining, troubleshooting, and repairing fitness equipment to ensure equipment is safe, operational, and available for member use. This position performs preventative maintenance, diagnoses equipment problems, completes repairs, and coordinates parts and service needs, and documents work through the club's work order system.

The Equipment Maintenance Technician works closely with club leadership and the Facilities team to respond to equipment repair requests and minimize equipment downtime.


Essential Functions

  • Inspect, troubleshoot, diagnose, and repair a variety of commercial fitness equipment, including cardiovascular and strength equipment. 
  • Perform preventative maintenance on fitness equipment according to established schedules and manufacturer recommendations. 
  • Identify mechanical, electrical, and operational problems with fitness equipment and determine appropriate repair or replacement needs. 
  • Disassemble, repair, reassemble, adjust, and test fitness equipment as necessary. 
  • Install, relocate, assemble, and disassemble fitness equipment within club facilities. 
  • Use hand tools, power tools, and other equipment necessary to perform repairs and maintenance. 
  • Identify required replacement parts and supplies and coordinate ordering as needed. 
  • Track equipment repairs, parts, and maintenance activities through the HappyFox work order system. 
  • Respond promptly to equipment repair and maintenance requests. 
  • Prioritize repair requests based on equipment condition, safety, member impact, and operational needs. 
  • Maintain accurate records of completed repairs, preventative maintenance, outstanding repairs, and parts ordered. 
  • Communicate equipment status and expected repair timelines to appropriate team members. 
  • Place equipment out of service when necessary to address safety or operational concerns. 
  • Test repaired equipment to ensure it is operating properly and safely before returning it to service. 
  • Post appropriate notices regarding equipment that is unavailable due to repairs or maintenance. 
  • Maintain work areas, tools, and equipment in a safe and orderly condition. 
  • Assist the Facilities team with other maintenance responsibilities as needed. 
  • Travel between clubs within the market and to other clubs outside of the market as needed.
Requirements:

Physical Demands

  • Must be able to walk, bend, reach, stretch, and use repetitive arm and leg motion throughout the shift. 
  • Repetitive lifting above head, reaching above head and shoulder, reaching below head and shoulder, lateral arm motion and reaching, pushing and pulling of equipment and machinery. 
  • Repetitive lifting, moving, and carrying items up to 50 lbs. 
  • Ability to move, position, assemble, and disassemble fitness equipment. 
  • Stretching, kneeling, bending, sitting, crawling, and climbing as required to perform repairs and maintenance. 
  • Ability to remain on feet for extended periods of time. 
  • Ability to work in indoor and outdoor environments. 
  • Must have the ability and willingness to work varied shifts including days, evenings, weekends, and holidays. 

Required Competencies, Education, and Experience

  • High school diploma or equivalent required. 
  • Prior experience repairing or maintaining mechanical, electrical, fitness, or commercial equipment preferred. 
  • Demonstrated mechanical aptitude and ability to troubleshoot equipment problems. 
  • Experience using hand and power tools. 
  • Ability to read and follow equipment manuals, repair instructions, and technical documentation. 
  • Ability to diagnose equipment problems and determine appropriate repairs. 
  • Familiarity with commercial fitness equipment preferred. 
  • Basic computer skills and ability to use electronic work order systems. 
  • Ability to maintain accurate records of repairs and preventative maintenance. 
  • Valid driver's license and acceptable driving record required.
