What You Will Do
This position is open for external candidates only to apply.
The Security System (SO-SS) group at Los Alamos National Laboratory provides technical support for the administrative/security access control, intrusion detection, and video assessment systems at the Laboratory. As a valuable member of the Argus Security Systems Maintenance Team, you will become fully proficient in fabricating, installing, testing, repairing, and maintaining electrical systems and equipment for the Argus access control, intrusion detection, and video systems.
Computer and Information Security Technician 2 $54,900 - $84,300
The successful candidate will:
  • Become familiar with the Argus Security System.
  • Become familiar with LANL policies and SO-SS internal procedures.
  • Work under other subject matter experts (SME) for guidance and training.
  • Become experienced in fabricating, installing, testing, repairing, maintaining electrical systems and equipment for access control, intrusion detection, and video systems.
  • Learn to maintain parts inventory and work with the SO-SS ticketing system.
  • Utilize hand tools, power tools and equipment.
  • Perform some non-routine tasks requiring the exercise of independent judgment.

Computer and Information Security Technician 3 $60,500 - $93,600
  • Will become proficient with the inner workings of the Argus Security System.
  • Will work on tasks with little to no supervision.
  • Will work on new installation projects with little to no supervision.

What You Need
Minimum Job Requirements:
  • 1-2 years working with electronic practices and principles.

  • Ability to read and understand blueprints.
  • Demonstrates the ability to troubleshoot and repair computer hardware to component level.

Education/Experience at Computer and Information Security Technician 2 level: Position requires high school diploma or equivalent and 1-2 years directly related experience.
Education/Experience at Computer and Information Security Technician 3 level: Position requires high school diploma or equivalent and 2-4 years previous experience gained thorough training in specific field of technology. Technical institute graduate or associate's degree may be preferred.
Desired Qualifications:
  • Knowledge of a work control ticketing system.
  • Demonstrated understanding of the organization and mission of the Laboratory and the Security Directorate.
  • Experience and knowledge in systems management, computer operations, hardware and software configurations, system recovery procedures, peripheral operations, or network interfaces.
  • Knowledge of Argus networking equipment and configuration.

Essential Job Functions (can perform with or without reasonable accommodation) : This position requires the ability to perform on-call duties on a rotation basis. Must be able to respond within 2 hours of notification. Minimal travel is anticipated but may be required for training purposes. May be required to work weekends or off hours to work on installations as not to impact the mission of the customer.
Work Location : The work location for this position is onsite and located in Los Alamos, NM. All work locations are at the discretion of management.
Position commitment: Regular appointment employees are required to serve a period of continuous service in their current position in order to be eligible to apply for posted jobs throughout the Laboratory. If an employee has not served the time required, they may only apply for Laboratory jobs with the documented approval of their Division Leader. The position commitment for this position is 1 year.

Additional Details
Directive 206.2 - Employment with Triad requires a favorable decision by NNSA indicating employee is suitable under NNSA Supplemental Directive 206.2 . Please note that this requirement applies only to citizens of the United States. Foreign nationals are subject to a similar requirement under DOE Order 142.3A.
Clearance: Q (Position will be cleared to this level). Selected applicants will be subject to a background investigation conducted by or on behalf of the Federal Government, and must meet eligibility requirements* for access to classified matter. This position requires a Q clearance, and obtaining such clearance requires US Citizenship except in extremely rare circumstances. Dependent upon the position, additional authorization to access classified information may be required, which may or may not be available to dual citizens. Receipt of a Q clearance and additional access authorization ultimately is a decision of the Federal Government and not of Triad.
*Eligibility requirements: To obtain a clearance, an individual must be at least 18 years of age; U.S. citizenship is required except in very limited circumstances. See DOE Order 472.2 for additional information.
New-Employment Drug Test: The Laboratory requires successful applicants to complete a new-employment drug test and maintains a substance abuse policy that includes random drug testing. Although New Mexico and other states have legalized the use of marijuana, use and possession of marijuana remain illegal under federal law. A positive drug test for marijuana will result in termination of employment, even if the use was pre-offer.
Regular position: Term status Laboratory employees applying for regular-status positions are converted to regular status.
