Job description

Description:
Do you thrive in a fast-paced environment and have a passion for leading high-performing teams? Are you looking for an opportunity to make a meaningful impact on the lives of pets, their families, and the people who care for them? Elm City Vet is seeking an experienced and motivated Veterinary Hospital Manager to lead our Primary Care team in New Haven, CT.
As Hospital Manager, you will play a critical role in driving operational excellence, fostering a collaborative and positive culture, and empowering a dedicated team to deliver exceptional patient care and client service. This is an opportunity to make a lasting impact while helping shape the future of a growing practice.
Our vision is simple: to create a healthier, happier community for both the animals we care for and the people who love them. We are looking for a leader with a strong veterinary background, outstanding communication skills, and a passion for developing teams, improving operations, and delivering an exceptional client experience.
Pieper Veterinary is a highly respected, veterinarian-owned, and operated family of emergency, specialty, urgent care, and primary care hospitals across Connecticut, Pennsylvania, Massachusetts, and Maine. For more than 90 years, we have remained committed to advancing veterinary medicine through innovation, collaboration, continuous learning, and compassionate care. We believe our people are our greatest strength, and we provide the support, resources, and opportunities they need to thrive while delivering the highest standard of care to our patients and clients.
About You:
The Hospital Manager is responsible for the overall leadership and day-to-day operations of the hospital, ensuring exceptional patient care, outstanding client service, and a positive, collaborative work environment. This role provides strategic and operational leadership to the hospital team while ensuring they have the resources, support, and guidance needed to deliver the highest standard of veterinary care.
Our ideal candidate has 3+ years of leadership experience, preferably within a veterinary general practice setting, and possesses the critical thinking, operational expertise, and problem-solving skills essential to a fast-paced veterinary hospital.
In this role, you will lead the full employee lifecycle, including recruiting, interviewing, hiring, onboarding, scheduling, performance management, and team development. You will foster a culture of accountability, engagement, and continuous learning by coaching employees, providing regular feedback, and creating individualized development plans that support both personal and professional growth.
The Hospital Manager partners closely with fellow Hospital Managers across the region to share best practices, improve workflows, and drive operational efficiencies while maintaining exceptional standards of patient care and client satisfaction. Reporting directly to the Area Director, you will collaborate to establish and achieve operational, financial, and strategic goals that support the continued success and growth of your hospital.
Compensation:
$70,000-$80,000 annually based on experience.
Schedule:
This is a full-time, salaried position.
The hospital manager should expect to be on site 5 days per week between 40-45 hours.
Benefits:
  • Competitive salary
  • Paid Time off
  • Comprehensive Medical, Dental and Vision plans
  • Generous pet discount
  • 401(k) retirement plan with company match.

We know it's not always easy to make a move. We treat all interviews as confidential and if a casual chat is more your style, we can do that too! We genuinely love what we do and the people we work with!
Requirements:
  • Certified Veterinary Practice Manager is desirable but not required.
  • 3+ years in Customer Service role, preferably in veterinary general practice.
  • Exceptional organizational skills, with the ability to multi-task.
  • Proven experience developing and growing teams.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication.
