StepStone Hospitality is seeking an experienced and hands-on Area Chief Engineer to oversee engineering and maintenance operations for the DoubleTree by Hilton and Tru by Hilton properties in the Portland, Maine market. This leadership role is responsible for maintaining both hotels' physical assets, ensuring guest satisfaction, managing preventative maintenance programs, and leading engineering team members while maintaining compliance with brand standards and safety regulations.

The ideal candidate is a proactive leader with strong technical knowledge, excellent problem-solving skills, and hospitality maintenance experience.


Key Responsibilities
  • Oversee all engineering and maintenance operations for both hotel properties 
  • Maintain guest rooms, public spaces, back-of-house areas, and hotel equipment to brand standards 
  • Develop and manage preventative maintenance programs 
  • Supervise, train, schedule, and motivate engineering staff 
  • Respond quickly and effectively to maintenance requests and emergency situations 
  • Monitor and maintain HVAC, plumbing, electrical, refrigeration, and life safety systems 
  • Ensure compliance with OSHA, fire safety, environmental, and local building regulations 
  • Manage departmental budgets, inventory, purchasing, and vendor relationships 
  • Coordinate renovations, capital improvement projects, and contractor work 
  • Conduct routine property inspections and identify operational improvements 
  • Maintain accurate maintenance records and work order systems 
  • Support hotel operations with a strong focus on guest satisfaction and team collaboration 
Qualifications
  • Minimum 5 years of hotel engineering or facilities maintenance experience 
  • Previous leadership experience as Chief Engineer or Assistant Chief Engineer preferred 
  • Strong working knowledge of HVAC, plumbing, electrical, and mechanical systems 
  • Experience with Hilton brand standards preferred 
  • Ability to troubleshoot and resolve maintenance issues efficiently 
  • Strong leadership, communication, and organizational skills 
  • Ability to work flexible schedules including weekends and on-call emergencies 
  • Proficiency with maintenance management systems and Microsoft Office 
  • EPA certification and/or trade licenses preferred 
Physical Requirements
  • Ability to lift up to 50 pounds 
  • Frequent walking, standing, climbing ladders, bending, and working in mechanical spaces 
  • Ability to work in varying environmental conditions
