Job description


The Wheaton Archives & Special Collections invites undergraduate and graduate students to apply for the Archival Clerk position. Archival Clerks support the mission of the Archives & Special Collections by contributing to processing, preservation, and digitization projects, and providing prompt access to archival materials requested by users. Qualified candidates should be flexible, enthusiastic, detail-orientated, and able work independently. Archival Clerks will be required to maintain the confidentiality of restricted archival materials and be able to lift boxes of up to 40 pounds.
The position is 10 hours/week for the 2026/2027 academic year and reports to a designated Archives & Special Collections staff member. This position is not eligible for Federal Work Study.
RESPONSIBILITIES:
  • Paging and refiling archival materials for researcher use in the Manuscripts Reading Room.
  • Assisting with archival processing projects, including sorting, arranging, and describing archival materials.
  • Transcribing oral history interviews.
  • Contributing to digitization efforts, including photographs, sound and moving image recordings.
  • Perform light office duties, including dusting and cleaning storage spaces, running campus errands to Bookstore, CPO, Student Services, etc.
  • Assist with accessioning new collections, including unloading and inventorying shipments of archival materials.
  • Other duties and special projects as assigned.
