Job description

Cloud Solutions Architect / Cloud Engineer – SME

Falls Technology LLC
Location: Chantilly, VA
Clearance: Active TS/SCI with Polygraph required

Falls Technology is looking for an experienced Cloud Solutions Architect / Cloud Engineer SME to join our team supporting a mission-focused cloud application environment in Chantilly, VA.

This is a highly technical, hands-on position for someone who can both architect solutions and build them. We’re looking for an engineer with a strong software development background who can independently design, develop, deploy, and evolve cloud-native applications and the infrastructure that supports them.

The ideal candidate is equally comfortable discussing application architecture, writing code, deploying Kubernetes workloads, and building cloud infrastructure with Terraform.

What You’ll Do

  • Independently design and develop cloud-based applications and services.
  • Architect scalable, secure, and maintainable cloud-native solutions.
  • Develop production software and application services using modern programming languages.
  • Design and develop modern web applications and user interfaces.
  • Build and maintain cloud infrastructure using Infrastructure as Code and automation.
  • Deploy, configure, and operate containerized applications using Kubernetes.
  • Develop and maintain Helm charts and Kubernetes deployment configurations.
  • Automate infrastructure configuration and deployment using Terraform and Ansible.
  • Design solutions leveraging AWS, Azure, GCP, or similar cloud platforms.
  • Develop and support applications within Linux environments.
  • Work across application, cloud, infrastructure, security, and DevSecOps teams.
  • Troubleshoot complex issues spanning application code, containers, cloud infrastructure, networking, and deployment pipelines.
  • Provide technical leadership and architectural guidance while remaining directly involved in implementation.

Required Qualifications

  • Active TS/SCI clearance with Polygraph.
  • Significant experience independently designing and developing cloud-based applications.
  • Strong background in software engineering, application development, or web application development and deployment.
  • Hands-on software development experience with one or more of the following:
    • Java
    • Go
    • C#
  • Experience with modern frontend frameworks such as:
    • React
    • Angular
    • Vue
  • Strong Linux experience.
  • Hands-on experience with at least one major cloud platform:
    • AWS
    • Azure
    • Google Cloud Platform (GCP)
  • Experience with Infrastructure as Code and automation technologies, including:
    • Terraform
    • Ansible
    • Helm
  • Strong hands-on experience with Kubernetes.
  • Ability to independently design technical solutions and carry them through implementation and deployment.

Desired Qualifications

  • Experience designing and operating production Kubernetes environments.
  • Experience architecting highly available and scalable cloud-native applications.
  • Experience with container technologies and microservices architectures.
  • Experience developing CI/CD and DevSecOps pipelines.
  • Experience with automated application and infrastructure deployment.
  • Experience integrating cloud applications with enterprise or mission systems.
  • Experience with cloud networking, security, identity, logging, and monitoring.
  • Experience troubleshooting across the complete application and infrastructure stack.
  • Relevant AWS, Azure, GCP, Kubernetes, or Infrastructure as Code certifications.

Ideal Candidate

We're looking for an architect who still likes to build.

The strongest candidate will have a software engineering background and enough cloud and infrastructure experience to own a solution from application architecture through deployment. You should be comfortable writing application code, working in Linux, building infrastructure with Terraform, deploying to Kubernetes, and troubleshooting when something doesn't work as expected.

This is not an architecture-only position. Hands-on engineering is a core part of the role.
