Internships serve as a stepping stone toward becoming a licensed architect, whereas Designers are fully qualified professionals in the field.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as an Architecture Intern, and why are they important?

To thrive as an Architecture Intern, you need a solid understanding of architectural design principles, drafting, and basic building codes, typically supported by progress toward an accredited degree in architecture. What does an architecture intern do?

An architecture intern assists licensed architects with various aspects of the design and construction process. Typical tasks include preparing drawings and models, conducting research, assisting with project documentation, and attending meetings with clients or contractors. Interns gain hands-on experience with architectural software and construction site visits, helping bridge the gap between academic studies and professional practice. The role is often a requirement for licensure and provides valuable insight into the daily responsibilities of an architect.

What are some typical responsibilities and learning opportunities for an Architecture Intern during their placement?

This role offers valuable exposure to real-world design workflows, client meetings, and project documentation processes. Interns often collaborate closely with team members from different disciplines, gaining insight into project coordination and the architectural design lifecycle. The experience is a great opportunity to develop technical skills, understand industry standards, and build a professional portfolio, setting a strong foundation for future career growth.
