The Civil and Architectural Engineering and Construction Management (CAECM) Department consists of 21 full-time faculty, 3 full-time staff and 2 part-time staff, and houses three accredited undergraduate programs with mandatory co-op: Architectural Engineering (234 students), Civil Engineering (399 students), and Construction Management (412 students). The CAECM Department also houses the Civil Engineering M.Eng., M.S., and Ph.D. graduate programs, as well as the Architectural Engineering M.Eng. program, with 85 graduate students across programs. The Department has strong educational and research programs in building systems, structural engineering, construction engineering, transportation systems and infrastructure, and geotechnical and pavement engineering. The Architectural Engineering program at UC is a nationally recognized, co-op–integrated engineering program. It emphasizes integrated building systems design and prepares students for professional practice at the intersection of engineering disciplines. The program has robust enrollment and offers BS degree tracks in structural engineering, building mechanical systems, building lighting and electrical systems, and construction management, with options to pursue MS and PhD degrees in Civil Engineering, and an M.Eng. in Architectural Engineering. UC’s AE program houses active student chapters for AEI, ASHRAE, and IES, and has achieved consistent success in national student design competitions.
The Department of Civil and Architectural Engineering and Construction Management (CAECM) in the College of Engineering and Applied Science (CEAS) at the University of Cincinnati (UC) invites applications for a full-time, non-tenure track Assistant/Associate/Full Professor - Educator (Teaching Faculty) position in Architectural Engineering, with a focus on building lighting and electrical systems. Appointment rank will be commensurate with qualifications and experience. The appointment has the possibility to begin as early as August 15, 2026.
The Educator track at the University of Cincinnati emphasizes excellence in teaching and student engagement, innovative pedagogy, and applied learning, aligning with the university’s strong tradition of cooperative education. The workload for the position is expected to be 90% teaching and 10% service, with no expectation of obtaining research funding. Appointees will be evaluated for reappointment and promotion based on criteria established by the CAECM department and CEAS. This position supports a growing Architectural Engineering program within a comprehensive engineering college. The successful candidate will contribute to undergraduate and/or graduate instruction in Architectural Engineering areas such as but not limited to:
- Electrical and power systems in buildings
- Architectural lighting design and daylighting
- Building energy systems and controls (with emphasis on lighting/electrical integration)
- Integrated building systems design
- Engineering capstone design
- Teach undergraduate and graduate courses in Architectural Engineering, particularly in lighting and electrical systems and senior capstone design
- Develop and enhance curriculum to reflect current industry practices and emerging technologies
- Implement active, experiential, and project-based learning approaches
- Contribute to program assessment, accreditation (e.g., ABET), and continuous improvement processes
- Advise and mentor students, including student professional organizations such as AEI
- Participate in service to the department, college, and profession
Additional opportunities may include any of the following, depending on candidate qualifications:
- Providing leadership in curriculum development or program-level initiatives
- Contributing to the strategic growth of the Architectural Engineering program
- Contributing to teaching excellence initiatives within the department or college
- Strengthening partnerships with industry to enhance the co-op program
Prior to the effective date of the appointment, a Ph.D. in Architectural Engineering, Electrical Engineering or a related discipline.
