Overview

Colliers Engineering & Design is looking for a Department Manager to lead our Architecture department in Rochester, NY! Our team of talented and creative architects work closely as trusted partners with our clients throughout the design process to realize a jointly conceived vision.

We offer a full range of services from preliminary planning and feasibility studies through final design and construction inspection for both full build‑out, renovations and adaptive reuse projects. Our markets include commercial development, warehousing, pre‑K‑12 and higher education, science and technology, municipal and public works agencies, offices and corporate facilities, and retail and food.

Our in‑house team of architects, interior designers, engineers, and planners skillfully balance design constraints with the clients’ needs and desired outcome. This creates collaborative, dynamic and timeless designs. Our professionals also provide mechanical, electrical, and plumbing (MEP) design, programming, corporate branding, standards integration, workstation specification, facilities and construction management support, energy solutions, and LEED certification. We take pride in delivering results that are innovative, sustainable and award‑winning.

Responsibilities
  • Reviews and manages operations of Architecture to ensure the quality of the technical products.
  • Establishes effective long‑range objectives, goals, and plans for Architecture discipline in Rochester, NY.
  • Provides technical and management leadership to designers, drafters, and project managers.
  • Develops marketing program in conjunction with Architecture discipline goals.
  • Advise and assist professionals in other groups when expert knowledge and expertise is required.
  • Manages activities so an adequate profit is earned on all projects.
  • Reviews monthly productivity and labor hour utilization‑rates, reports and adjusts as needed.
  • Assigns projects to staff and schedules work.
  • Conduct Employee Performance Evaluations in accordance with company policy.
Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s Degree in Architecture or related field required.
  • Master’s Degree in Architecture or related field preferred.
  • 10+ years of experience in Architecture, particularly supporting Building Engineering Services.
  • Professional Licensure in New York State required.
  • Prior experience supporting government and institutional projects preferred.
  • Demonstrated ability to lead effectively and efficiently, planning, organizing, and managing procedures, protocols, and/or staff to achieve desired outcomes for projects and programs.
  • Ability to read, write and understand English for purposes of comprehending written job‑related communications and verbal instructions and interactions.

Compensation: $132,000 to $165,000 per year (depending on qualifications)
