Job description

Piechota Architecture is an architecture studio based in San Francisco's South of Market neighborhood, focusing on high-end residential design. With nearly three decades of experience, we create architecture that is deliberate without being loud, and subtle without being quiet, work that punctuates the straightforward with the nuanced.

We believe that a thoughtfully designed and finely crafted personal space is not just an expression of aesthetic sensibility, it enhances function and restores well-being, clarity, and harmony. Our projects celebrate the textural richness of California's most spectacular settings and we are committed to site-specific, modern, and highly crafted architecture that integrates seamlessly with the landscape.

Position Description

We are seeking a highly motivated and talented Project Architect to join our tight knit team. The role suits someone who has carried at least one project from design through construction and is ready to take on more, rather than someone running a portfolio. Initial work will include ground-up residential on the California coast, in jurisdictions with extended entitlement timelines. The ideal candidate is technically proficient, design-sensitive, and possesses excellent organizational and communication skills. You will work as an integral part of project teams, ensuring the translation of design intent into construction documentation across all phases of project delivery.

Primary Responsibilities:

  • In partnership with the principal, serve as the primary contact with client, consultants, contractors and co-workers.
  • Develop, manage and maintain a comprehensive project plan outlining all phases and Project services within specific time and budget parameters.
  • Work with administration to manage and monitor project budget and internal cost control and create appropriate billings compliant with contractual agreement.
  • Monitor and identify changes in project scope, schedule or service that result in supplemental or additional services and bring such changes to the immediate attention of the client, principal and administration.
  • Supervise one or more employees on project(s) including weekly review of timecards for conformance with the project budget.
  • Schedule and co-chair all client meetings. Record minutes and document action items.
  • Organize and chair regular in-house project meetings and provide regular progress reports to principal and other relevant personnel.
  • Reconcile the goals and priorities of the firm with those of our client while fostering opportunities for design and technical excellence.

Requirements:

  • Bachelor's or Master's degree in Architecture from an accredited program
  • Experience running projects independently in residential or hospitality, with principal-level oversight rather than day-to-day senior support on ground-up or substantial remodel projects.
  • Proven ability to develop a project schedule and design budget and monitor the design and construction documentation process throughout the life of the project
  • Experience leading a team
  • Excellent design skills from the conceptual to the detailed
  • A keen eye for detail both custom and standard
  • Outstanding communication ability with clients, contractors & co-workers
  • Knowledge of ArchiCad, Adobe Suite or ArchiOffice a plus but not required

What We Offer

  • Comprehensive benefits to include medical + vision
  • Every Other Friday Off (compressed work schedule)
  • Generous vacation and holidays
  • Professional development support
  • Collaborative in-office culture

The compensation range for this position is competitive and commensurate with experience. Final salary decisions are made based upon the extent and relatedness of the candidate's education and experience, portfolio quality, and considering market factors.
