Job description

Location: Aurora, CO

Job Type: Full-Time, Exempt

Travel: Minimal

Business Entity: APS (Active Play Solutions), a Lava Island company

Welcome to Lava Island

Lava Island is an indoor play oasis where kids fly across trampolines, vanish into towering jungle gyms, dive into foam pits, and race down slides while families share pizza and celebrate birthdays in the party rooms. It is loud, bright, and full of energy.

Every trampoline, deck, slide, and play piece is made by hand. Active Play Solutions (APS) is the team that makes them.

The Job

APS is the Lava Island manufacturing entity. We design, build, and install the playground equipment, jump decks, trampolines, slides, and soft goods that go into every new Lava Island park. The business is in ramp-up: we are building the team, the production floor, the systems, and the processes that will carry us from 5 to 6 parks per year today toward 15 to 20 parks per year at scale.

The Production Manager runs the APS production floor end to end. The role takes the production package from the design team and the cut files from the Automation Designer, and turns them into finished components ready for install. You own the team, the equipment, the SOPs, and the quality of the work that leaves the floor.

This is a ground-floor build. You are not stepping into an established operation. You are setting it up: hiring the production crew, building the SOPs, dialing in the machines, and creating the flow. The leverage is high, and the room to shape the function is real.

Why APS

  • Real scope. You run the floor end to end. Equipment, people, SOPs, quality, inventory, maintenance, and the bridge to design, procurement, and install.
  • Build it, don't inherit it. You set the standard, write the SOPs, hire the crew. The function is yours to shape.
  • Growing company. Lava Island is opening more parks every year. APS grows with it.
  • Strong partners around you. You work alongside an Automation Designer, a Project Manager, Procurement, and the APS leadership team that has been doing this work for years.
  • Denver based. On-site at the APS warehouse in Aurora. Minimal travel.

What You Will Do

Run the production floor

  • Lead the floor end to end across three production groups: Pre-Fab, Industrial Sewing, and CNC cutting.
  • Set the operating standard and the daily pace. Walk the floor. Know the status of every active job, every machine, every team member.
  • Serve as the final quality control check on what leaves the floor.

Own the equipment

  • Maintain expert-level proficiency on every piece of equipment on the floor: industrial sewing machines, grommet tools, PVC cutters, steel cutting machines, CNC / beam saws, pre-fab stations.
  • Own preventive and corrective maintenance. Handle what you can with the team, schedule outside vendors when needed.

Build the SOPs and cross-train the crew

  • Build and maintain the SOPs that govern production. Update them as equipment, processes, and product designs evolve.
  • Drive cross-training. Operators are developed to run multiple stations within their group and across groups. The standard is breadth, not single-machine specialization.

Hire, develop, and lead the team

  • Own the full staffing scope for production crew roles: hiring decisions, training, scheduling, and performance management. HQ supports on postings and onboarding logistics; staffing decisions sit with you.
  • Build a stable, capable team and develop crew members over time.

Coordinate across APS

  • Work with the Automation Designer to confirm cut files are ready before production starts.
  • Work with Procurement on raw materials: track what is needed on the floor and flag for purchase and sourcing.
  • Coordinate load-out with the Warehouse Coordinator: completed components move from the floor to the staging bays, where the Warehouse Coordinator handles packing, loading, and shipping to the park site.
  • Surface production risks, delays, or capacity concerns to the Project Manager and APS Director early.

What You Need

  • Production or manufacturing leadership experience. Typically five or more years in a lead or supervisor role on a production floor, ideally in fabrication, themed environment manufacturing, playground equipment, or similar build-to-spec work.
  • Hands-on expertise across multiple types of production equipment. Strong candidates have experience with CNC, beam saw, steel cutting, industrial sewing, and pre-fabrication processes.
  • Track record building and maintaining SOPs for a production environment.
  • Experience leading and staffing a production crew. Hiring, training, scheduling, and performance management.
  • Strong understanding of preventive maintenance, equipment troubleshooting, and vendor coordination.
  • Comfort with email, spreadsheets, digital documentation, and inventory tracking tools. APS operates in a Microsoft 365 environment.

Experience in themed entertainment, playground equipment, or specialty fabrication is a plus. So is a lean manufacturing, continuous improvement, or process engineering background. So is bilingual (English / Spanish).

Ready to Build the Floor?

If you want to run a production floor in a growing Denver manufacturing company making the stuff kids play on, with the room to build the function the way it should be built, we want to meet you. Apply today.
