Job description

Job Title: Electrical Estimator
Location: Houston, TX
Company: Kilgore Industries
Department: Preconstruction / Estimating
Reports To: Chief Estimator / Preconstruction Manager
Position Summary
Kilgore Industries is seeking an experienced Electrical Estimator to support our growing commercial and industrial operations in the Houston market. This role is responsible for preparing accurate and competitive electrical estimates for negotiated and hard-bid projects, while supporting preconstruction, operations, and business development teams. The ideal candidate brings strong technical knowledge, attention to detail, and a collaborative mindset aligned with Kilgore’s commitment to safety, quality, and operational excellence.

Key Responsibilities
  • Prepare detailed electrical estimates for commercial, industrial, healthcare, aviation, and institutional projects
  • Review drawings, specifications, addenda, and contract requirements to determine project scope
  • Perform quantity takeoffs for conduit, wire, devices, panels, lighting, gear, and related electrical systems
  • Solicit and evaluate subcontractor and supplier pricing to ensure scope coverage and competitiveness
  • Develop labor, material, equipment, and overhead costs using historical data and industry benchmarks
  • Identify risk, value engineering opportunities, alternates, and cost-saving strategies during preconstruction
  • Collaborate with project management, engineering, and operations teams to align estimates with execution plans
  • Participate in bid reviews, turnover meetings, and preconstruction handoffs
  • Support change-order pricing and conceptual budgeting as needed
  • Maintain organized estimate files, takeoffs, and bid documentation
  • Comply with company estimating standards, safety policies, and quality procedures

Required Qualifications
  • 3–7+ years of experience as an Electrical Estimator in commercial or industrial construction
  • Strong knowledge of electrical systems, codes, means and methods, and construction sequencing
  • Proficiency in estimating and takeoff software (Accubid)
  • Ability to read and interpret construction drawings and specifications
  • Solid understanding of labor productivity, material pricing, and market conditions
  • Strong analytical, organizational, and communication skills
  • Ability to manage multiple bids simultaneously and meet deadlines

Preferred Qualifications
  • Experience estimating large-scale electrical projects ($5M+ electrical scope)
  • Familiarity with negotiated work, design-assist, and preconstruction services
  • Knowledge of Texas and Houston-area construction markets
  • Electrical field experience or apprenticeship background is a plus
