An associate software engineer works with a team of engineering professionals and developers to improve existing software or design new applications. As an associate software engineer, your job duties include coding software, coordinating with hardware engineers to ensure that different types of technology can run the software, and helping the QA team to test software before release. Typical qualifications for the career include a bachelor’s degree in computer science, engineering, or a related field and relevant technical experience with software applications. You also need excellent communication, coding, and analytical problem-solving skills, as well as the ability to work as part of a team.

What are some common challenges faced by associate software engineers when transitioning from academic projects to real-world development teams?

Associate Software Engineers often encounter challenges such as adapting to larger, more complex codebases and learning to work within established development workflows. To thrive as an Associate Software Engineer, you need a solid understanding of programming fundamentals, algorithms, and data structures, typically supported by a degree in computer science or a related field. Familiarity with programming languages like Java, Python, or C++, as well as experience using version control systems like Git, are commonly required. Job description

Overview

BabyBots is a growing automation and AI consultancy helping mid-market and enterprise organizations streamline operations using Microsoft’s Power Platform and Azure ecosystem. We work hands-on with clients to design and deliver practical, scalable automation solutions. We value clean execution, technical ownership, and people who want to grow fast by building real things for real customers.

About the Role

We’re hiring an Associate Software Automation Engineer to support client delivery across Microsoft Power Platform and Azure-based solutions. You will report directly to a Project Manager, providing clear technical direction and mentorship while you focus on execution.

What You’ll Be Responsible For
  • Power Platform Development (Primary Focus) — Own the implementation of assigned features, enhancements, and fixes using Power Apps (Canvas & Model-Driven), Power Automate, Power BI, and Dataverse.
  • Build solutions that are maintainable, readable, and production-ready.
  • Iterate quickly based on feedback from internal reviews and client testing.
Client Intake & Discovery Support
  • Participate in discovery and intake calls led by the PM/Senior Engineer.
  • Proactively surface edge cases, data limitations, integration risks, and translate business requirements into clear technical tasks.
Data & Integrations
  • Work with SQL-backed data sources (Azure SQL, SQL Server).
  • Implement and extend integrations using APIs and established patterns.
  • Perform data transformations using Power Query and SQL as needed.
Azure & AI Exposure
  • Implement and extend AI-enabled features using Azure AI services under guidance.
  • Support automation scenarios such as document processing, summarization, and classification.
  • Follow responsible AI and governance standards in enterprise environments.
Quality & Delivery
  • Test your work thoroughly before review or UAT.
  • Debug issues independently before escalating.
  • Maintain clear documentation for apps, flows, and deployments.
  • Communicate progress, risks, and blockers proactively.
What Strong Candidates Already Know How to Do

Successful candidates will already be comfortable with most of the following:

  • Building non-trivial Power Apps (multi-screen, role-aware, connected to real data).
  • Creating Power Automate flows with conditions, error handling, and approvals.
  • Working with Dataverse or SQL-backed data models.
  • Reading API documentation and implementing integrations with guidance.
  • Debugging issues independently and explaining root causes clearly.
  • Taking ownership of assigned work and seeing it through to completion.
Required Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, IT, or equivalent practical experience.
  • Hands-on experience with Microsoft Power Platform.
  • Working knowledge of SQL and relational data concepts.
  • Familiarity with APIs and external system integrations.
  • Strong attention to detail and execution mindset.
  • Comfortable working in a delivery-oriented, client-facing environment.
  • Authorized to work in the U.S. without current or future visa sponsorship.
Nice to Have (Not Required)
  • Experience with Azure Functions, Logic Apps, or Azure SQL.
  • Exposure to Azure AI, OpenAI, or LLM-based workflows.
  • Microsoft Power Platform or Azure certifications.
  • Prior consulting or client project experience.
