Job description

Position

Graduate Petroleum Engineer – Oil & Gas Technical Team (A&D) in the Houston‑based Energy Investment Banking office of Morgan Stanley.

Qualifications
  • Education: Engineering degree required. Preferred: Chemical Engineering, Computer Science, or Software Engineering. Petroleum, Mechanical, or Electrical degrees may also be considered.
  • Academic achievement: Above 3.6 GPA on a 4.0 scale.
  • Experience: 1–2 years of relevant work experience preferred (reservoir or petroleum engineering). 0 years may be considered for the right candidate.
  • Interest: Strong interest in upstream oil & gas asset valuation.
  • Required skills and abilities: Strong quantitative and analytical skills; advanced oral and written communication skills; ability to work independently while functioning as part of a team; strong attention to detail and ability to work in high‑pressure settings with tight deadlines; advanced Microsoft Excel and PowerPoint; software coding experience (VBA macro development, Python, or SQL); basic understanding of database design and functionality (Microsoft Access).
  • Preferred: Decline curve analysis, SEC reserve definitions; experience with Enverus (DrillingInfo), Enerdeq, ARIES, PHDWin, Tableau, Spotfire; basic understanding of petroleum geology.
