SPS New England, Inc., one of the leading heavy highway contractors in New England, is seeking a highly motivated individual to perform duties on Bridge and Highway construction projects.
Since 1984, SPS has been helping to rebuild New England's infrastructure. Wherever you drive throughout Massachusetts and southern New Hampshire, there's a good chance you will travel down a road or over a bridge built by SPS New England.
Position Description
SPS is seeking a driven and detail-oriented Field Engineer to join our team specializing in bridge construction, highway rehabilitation, and complex heavy civil projects. The Field Engineer plays a key role in project execution, supporting field operations, ensuring work quality, and maintaining accurate project documentation. This is an opportunity to develop strong construction management skills while working on some of the region's most significant infrastructure projects.
Salary/Pay Range: $70,000-$100,000 Dependent upon experience
Key Responsibilities
    • Assist the project team in planning, scheduling, and coordinating daily field activities.
    • Work closely with superintendents, foremen, subcontractors, and inspectors to ensure project tasks are completed accurately and safely.
    • Track quantities, materials, equipment, and labor for progress reporting and cost control.
    • Read and interpret plans, specifications, and shop drawings for bridge and highway projects.
    • Perform layout and surveying tasks, including setting control points, elevations, and line and grade.
    • Verify field measurements and assist with as-built documentation.
    • Support the development of work plans, lift plans, and temporary works used in major bridge and rehabilitation operations.
    • Maintain accurate project documentation, including daily reports, RFIs, submittals, and quality control records.
    • Ensure work is completed in accordance with project specifications, codes, and safety standards.
    • Assist in preparing change orders, quantity takeoffs, and production reports.
    • Promote and enforce company safety policies and procedures on-site.
    • Participate in safety meetings, job hazard analyses, and site inspections.

Position Requirements
Required Skills & Qualifications
    • Bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering, Construction Management, or related field (or equivalent experience).
    • Strong computer skills, including proficiency with Microsoft Office; familiarity with AutoCAD, Bluebeam, and project management software is a plus.
    • Excellent communication, organization, and problem-solving abilities.
    • Ability to read and interpret engineering drawings and technical documents.
    • Self-motivated, adaptable, and eager to learn in a fast-paced environment.
    • Comfortable working outdoors in varying conditions and visiting active construction sites.

Preferred Qualifications
    • Experience in heavy civil, bridge construction, or highway/bridge rehabilitation.
    • Surveying or construction layout experience.
    • Understanding of DOT standards and specifications.

Travel
    • Regular travel to project sites within the region.
    • No overnight travel required.
