Description
Chalet has an opportunity for a full-time, year-round Small Engine Mechanic Apprentice who would report to Fleet Management. Our Small Engine Mechanic Apprentice would assist with the operation of the tool room as well as maintain and make necessary repairs to small equipment.
Responsibilities include:
  • Schedule and perform necessary preventive maintenance to all small equipment. This includes sharpening blades; changing oil and spark plugs; and maintaining mowers, rototillers, sod cutters, backpack blowers, and the like.
  • Make necessary repairs as required to keep all small equipment in good operational condition.
  • Maintain and repair electrical equipment used in daily operations.
  • Check out needed tools and equipment to landscape crews and sign back in, including inspection.
  • Maintain inventory levels of expendable items (like dust masks, ear plugs, nails, etc.).

Requirements
The ideal candidate will possess the following qualifications:
  • Mechanical aptitude. Either entry level or an interest in mechanics. Someone that likes tinkering with mechanical things as a hobby and/or has enjoyed high school or vocational school mechanic courses.
  • Some general computer skills including e-mail, Excel, and the ability to research to find solutions.
  • Have a friendly and easily approachable style and be a supportive team player.
  • Must be bilingual in English and Spanish (written and spoken).
  • Must be able to lift 50 pounds and bend, reach, push/pull, and kneel.
  • Be able to see the little things and the big picture, proactively identifying, trouble shooting, and resolving any equipment issues. Good time management skills to prioritize and attend to issues.
  • Trustworthy, dependable, conscientious, organized and a self-starter.
  • Valid Driver's License is a plus.
  • High School diploma or comparable is required.

This is a full-time, year-round position that works Monday through Friday and on some Saturdays during our busy season. We offer a competitive hourly rate and full benefits package including medical, dental, life and disability insurances, paid time off, holidays, and 401(k) with match.
