Job description

Description:

Strategic Imperative

Chargie is a leading provider of intelligent, intuitive, and reliable electric vehicle charging solutions for modern commercial buildings, multifamily communities, and the growing number of EV drivers. Our vision is to create infrastructure that powers communities in the all-electric future.

We are seeking a motivated and detail-oriented Journeyman Electrician to support our installation initiatives.

About the Role

The Journeyman Electrician is responsible for performing and supporting the installation of commercial-scale electric vehicle (EV) charging infrastructure projects, from pre-construction through final activation. This role is primarily hands-on and includes limited supervisory responsibility for one assigned project at a time, overseeing 1 to 5 apprentice electricians while actively performing electrical work.

The Journeyman Electrician serves as the on-site technical lead during assigned tasks, ensuring work is completed safely, efficiently, and in accordance with engineered plans, NEC requirements, and local codes. This position plays a critical role in installation quality, schedule adherence, and field-level execution while working closely with Chargie project and engineering teams.

Requirements:

Key Responsibilities

Project Execution & Limited Crew Oversight

  • Perform hands-on electrical installation work for commercial EV charging projects
  • Provide task-level supervision and guidance to 1–5 apprentice electricians on an assigned project
  • Assign daily work activities to apprentices and verify work quality, productivity, and safety compliance
  • Serve as the on-site electrical point of contact for the assigned scope of work
  • Coordinate work activities with other trades and Chargie field leadership as needed

EV Installation & Electrical Scope

  • Install and support commercial electrical infrastructure, including but not limited to:
    • Switchboards, panels, transformers, main breakers, and load centers
    • Electrical raceways, conduit, and support systems
    • EV charging stations and associated electrical & network equipment
  • Support installations from pre-construction site evaluation through commissioning and activation
  • Perform terminations, testing, and troubleshooting of electrical systems

Technical Execution & Problem Solving

  • Work safely and confidently with live electrical systems when required
  • Evaluate existing electrical infrastructure, including legacy or outdated equipment, to determine safe integration methods
  • Develop material takeoffs and verify quantities based on site conditions and plan review
  • Perform fault current calculations, series rating verification, and equipment suitability checks
  • Troubleshoot electrical issues using appropriate testing equipment and diagnostic methods

Plan Interpretation & Field Coordination

  • Read and interpret electrical plans, single-line diagrams, and specifications
  • Identify constructability issues or field conflicts and communicate them to project leadership
  • Provide practical feedback to engineers and project managers based on real-world site conditions
  • Ensure all installations comply with NEC, local AHJ requirements, and Chargie standards

Safety, Compliance & Documentation

  • Follow and enforce jobsite safety protocols and best practices
  • Maintain accurate documentation related to installations, testing, and field changes
  • Support schedule adherence by coordinating materials, tools, and manpower needs within the assigned scope
  • Participate in inspections and assist with addressing AHJ comments or corrections

Qualifications

  • Must have active Journeyman Electrician license
  • Minimum 4–5 years of commercial electrical experience, including experience guiding apprentice electricians
  • Experience with commercial EV charging infrastructure installations preferred
  • Working knowledge of current NEC standards and applicable local codes
  • Experience coordinating with Authorities Having Jurisdiction (AHJs), preferably LADBS
  • Proven hands-on experience installing:
    • Switchboards, transformers, panels, and distribution equipment
    • Commercial electrical systems and EV charging equipment
  • Strong understanding of:
    • Fault current calculations and series rating
    • Electrical plan reading and interpretation
  • Ability to clearly communicate technical instructions to apprentice electricians
  • Comfortable working with live power and legacy electrical systems
  • Strong problem-solving and organizational skills
  • Valid driver’s license with a satisfactory driving record
  • Physical ability to perform job duties, including lifting equipment and working in active construction environments

Why Join Us?

  • Hands-on journeyman role in a fast-growing EV infrastructure company
  • Opportunity to lead field execution on assigned projects without full foreman responsibility
  • Competitive compensation and comprehensive benefits
  • Clear pathways for advancement into lead, foreman, or supervisory roles
  • Work with a mission-driven organization focused on sustainable transportation and infrastructure

All positions within Chargie require the following (unless otherwise specified or required for the job):

  • Physical Ability: Stand and walk for extended periods during testing and equipment handling. Lift, carry, push, and pull equipment up to 50 lbs.

  • Ability to type on a keyboard and utilize computer work tools consistently and proficiently (including MS Office Suite or equivalent).
  • Timely communication and responsiveness to peers and management.
  • Regular and consistent attendance to work and meetings.
  • Ability to receive and provide feedback in a professional and positive manner.
