Maintenance Apprentice

Electrical or Mechanical

Armstrong World Industries, Inc. is seeking a Maintenance Electrical Apprentice to support manufacturing operations at our plant in Marietta, PA. The plant manufactures mineral fiber ceiling tiles in a 24/7 fast paced environment. This position will be responsible for ensuring that the plant meets its key performance metrics and goals for safety, quality, throughput, delivery and cost.ย  Must be able to work shifts including nights and weekends.

The Apprenticeship is defined as the following:

  • A Four-year Electrical or Mechanical program (576 hours consisting of both classroom and 2000 hours of OTJ training).
  • 576 hours of classroom training will be through a local recognized program and will be on the apprentice's personal time.
  • The OJT training will be rotating assignments throughout the maintenance department.

You will be responsible for the installation, maintenance and troubleshooting of mechanical, pneumatic and hydraulic processes and systems.ย  You will work with operators, mechanics, electricians and engineers to solve manufacturing problems.

Specific job duties include:

  • Assemble, install, dismantle, repair, and reassemble mechanical equipment as necessary.
  • Diagnose and correct mechanical malfunctions so as to maintain equipment in a state of operating effectiveness and to meet production requirements
  • Work on mechanical equipment such as powered conveyors, paint booths, gas fired dryers, robotic palletizers, dust collectors, pump systems, etc...
  • You will execute predictive, preventative and corrective maintenance as scheduled.
  • Use a variety of hand and portableย power tools, along with shop equipment such as drill press, hack saw, grinder, lathe, etc.
  • Requisition and procureย required materials fromย storeroom.
  • Work from prints, sketches and other written or verbal instructions.
  • Maintain personal work tools
  • Perform other related miscellaneous duties as required

The position is expected to cover for shift work vacancies as necessary whichย may include nights and weekends.

Requirements

  • Highly motivated individual with desire to learn.
  • High level of mechanical aptitude.

Preferred Requirements:

  • Ability to operate mobile equipment;
  • Ability to be self-directed and work with limited supervision;
  • Ability to perform precision tasks including alignments using lasers, dial indicators, etc.
  • Ability to be trained on basic maintenance electrical troubleshooting skills
  • Demonstrated knowledge of the repair / installation of mechanical equipment;
  • Demonstrated knowledge of predictive maintenance practices (vibration, ultrasound, etc.) desired.
  • 1+ years of electrical or industrial experience.ย
