ZTEX Construction is a locally owned, heavy civil contractor specializing in earthwork, concrete, asphalt paving, underground utilities, and overall project management.

We are looking for an enthusiastic Apprentices to be a part of our team. A successful candidate should display a willingness to learn and grow in knowledge and experience within the construction field.

Apprenticeship Requirements

  • Apprenticeships are required to work a full-time schedule as an apprentice, and work under the supervision of an experienced and certified construction journeyworker.
  • Must be able to be enrolled in school for a full semester. Semesters usually run from February to May and September to December.
  • Cost of courses will be covered by ZTEX, promissory time is one year from the start of the semester.
  • Must be able to attend various skill training workshops and specialized classes in area of interest within the construction field.
  • Upon completion must also be able to prepare presentations, evaluation tests, and reports.
  • Must possess excellent time management skills, strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Able to build and maintain long-term business relationships.
  • Must be able to visit different locations and job sites.
  • Must be able to work well in a team.
  • Apprentices should display good physical dexterity and a detail-oriented approach.
  • Must be able to meet all compliance with the health and safety procedures.
  • Must be able to follow safety rules and identify hazards in the workplace.

Job Duties and Responsibilities

  • Perform a variety of tasks involving strenuous manual labor in heavy construction projects.
  • Unload, carry, place, and secure with tie wire concrete reinforcing steel and accessories.
  • Manually excavates and fills trenches and ditches.
  • Handles and stores materials.
  • Preparations for concrete pour include installing embedded items and cleaning.
  • Assist in demolishing activities.
  • Operate pneumatic hammers, vibrators, and tampers.
  • Operate electric powered tools.
  • Signal operators to guide them in moving equipment and provide assistance.
  • As courses are completed, may also begin operating in area of specialty.

Education, Training and Experience Requirements

  • Must have a High School diploma, GED or equivalent.
  • Must be 18 years of age at minimum.
  • Must be fully bilingual, English/Spanish and must be able to perform basic math, possess reading comprehension and communication skills for the job and the course work.

*This is an evergreen posting which means it will stay open continuously and will not close. However, if at the time of application, we do not have any open apprenticeship positions, we will keep your application active for 4 months from the time of application. Enrollment for the apprenticeship courses are three months prior to the fall and spring semesters.

Additional Qualifying Factors

As a condition of employment, you will be required to pass a pre-employment drug screening and physical screening. If applicable to the contract, you may also be required to submit through a background check. Must have reliable transportation to/from work, must have a valid driver's license at time of application.
