What is an apprentice junior web developer?

Apprentice Junior Web Developers are entry-level professionals who are learning the foundational skills needed to build and maintain websites or web applications. They typically work under the supervision of more experienced developers and participate in both on-the-job training and formal education, such as coding bootcamps or apprenticeships. Their responsibilities often include writing basic code, fixing bugs, learning web technologies like HTML, CSS, and JavaScript, and gaining experience with tools and frameworks used in the industry. The goal of the apprenticeship is to help them develop the technical and professional skills required to become a fully qualified web developer.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as an apprentice junior web developer?

To thrive as an Apprentice Junior Web Developer, you need a foundational understanding of HTML, CSS, JavaScript, and basic programming concepts, often acquired through formal education or coding bootcamps. Familiarity with version control systems like Git, code editors such as VS Code, and exposure to frameworks like React or Node.js are commonly expected. Strong problem-solving skills, attention to detail, and the ability to communicate and collaborate within a team are essential soft skills in this role. These skills ensure you can effectively contribute to web development projects, learn from more experienced developers, and adapt quickly to evolving technologies.

Job description

Senior AWS Full Stack Engineer
Locations: Knoxville, TN | Columbia, SC | Lafayette, LA | Birmingham, AL
Work Arrangement: Hybrid - candidates must be able to work from one of the listed locations
Industry: Financial Services
Experience: 5+ years
We are seeking a Senior AWS Full Stack Engineer to develop and enhance cloud-based applications within a large-scale financial services environment.
This opportunity is ideal for an experienced, hands-on engineer who is comfortable working across the full application stack-from modern web interfaces and backend services to databases and AWS cloud infrastructure. You will build scalable applications and APIs, contribute to cloud-native development initiatives, and support automated build, testing, and deployment processes.
The role also offers opportunities to incorporate Generative AI and large language model capabilities into enterprise applications, including intelligent assistants, conversational interfaces, summarization, and other AI-enabled features.
What You'll Do
  • Design, develop, and maintain scalable full-stack applications running in AWS.
  • Build responsive web interfaces using React or Angular, JavaScript/TypeScript, HTML, and CSS.
  • Develop backend services using Java and Spring Boot, Node.js, or Python.
  • Build and integrate RESTful APIs and GraphQL services.
  • Work with relational databases such as PostgreSQL and MySQL and NoSQL technologies such as Amazon DocumentDB or MongoDB.
  • Develop and support CI/CD pipelines and containerized applications using Docker and Kubernetes.
  • Apply infrastructure-as-code practices to enable reliable and repeatable cloud deployments.
  • Integrate Generative AI and LLM capabilities into enterprise applications where appropriate.
  • Develop automated tests and follow established TDD, source-control, and Agile development practices.
  • Troubleshoot application, integration, database, and cloud-related issues across the technology stack.
  • Lead technical initiatives, conduct code reviews, and mentor junior engineers.
  • Collaborate with Product, UX, QA, and engineering teams to translate business requirements into scalable technical solutions.
  • Apply responsible AI principles when implementing GenAI-enabled features.

What You'll Bring
  • At least five years of experience developing and supporting applications in AWS environments.
  • Strong full-stack development experience, including:
    • Backend: Java/Spring Boot, Node.js, or Python
    • Frontend: React or Angular
    • Web Technologies: JavaScript/TypeScript, HTML, and CSS
  • Experience building and integrating RESTful APIs.
  • Experience working with PostgreSQL, MySQL, or similar relational databases.
  • Exposure to Amazon DocumentDB, MongoDB, or comparable NoSQL technologies.
  • Hands-on experience with CI/CD pipelines, Docker, Kubernetes, and infrastructure as code.
  • Strong understanding of scalable application architecture, software-design patterns, and cloud-native development.
  • Experience with automated testing and test-driven development.
  • Proficiency with Git and Agile software-development practices.
  • Ability to lead technical work, perform code reviews, and mentor less-experienced engineers.
  • Strong communication, problem-solving, and cross-functional collaboration skills.

Preferred Qualifications
  • Experience integrating Generative AI or LLM platforms such as OpenAI or Anthropic.
  • Experience developing AI-enabled assistants, chat interfaces, summarization tools, or similar intelligent features.
  • Familiarity with prompt engineering, model-tuning concepts, and responsible AI practices.
  • GraphQL development experience.
  • Experience working in financial services or another large, regulated enterprise environment.

Education
Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, Engineering, or a related field.
If you are a hands-on full-stack engineer who enjoys solving complex problems, building scalable AWS applications, and exploring the possibilities of Generative AI, we would like to hear from you.
