An Apprentice Firefighter is an entry-level position where individuals receive hands-on training and education in firefighting, emergency response, and life-saving techniques. Apprentices work under the supervision of experienced firefighters to develop essential skills, such as fire suppression, rescue operations, and equipment handling. To thrive as an Apprentice Firefighter, you need a solid level of physical fitness, basic knowledge of fire safety, and a high school diploma or equivalent. Our Communications Officers answer emergency and non-emergency calls, coordinate emergency response resources, provide life-saving Emergency Medical Dispatch (EMD) instructions, maintain communication with first responders in the field, and ensure responders have the information they need to safely protect our communities. The County may fill multiple vacancies for this position. This Apprenticeship Program is in the process of becoming a Registered Apprenticeship with the State of Colorado.

Typical Qualifications Applicants must possess: -High School Diploma or GED -Valid Colorado Driver's License -Ability to type approximately 40-45 words per minute -Ability to successfully complete required background investigations -Ability to obtain required certifications during the County's paid training program, including: -Emergency Medical Dispatch (EMD) -CPR -Colorado Crime Information Center (CCIC)/National Crime Information Center (NCIC) -FEMA Incident Command certifications Prior dispatch experience is welcomed-but not required.
