We are actively searching for a Product Design Engineer with Acrylonitrile Butadiene Styrene (ABS) or Plastics experience to liaison between our products and clients. In this role the Product Design Engineer, will have a mechanical engineering background such as Mechanical Engineering, Aerospace / Automotive / Naval Architecture and Ocean Engineering, Precision Engineering and Design or others and will work directly with our client in the Automotive, Home Appliance or Consumer product industries. This position is based in Ravenna, OH.

Responsibilities include:

  • Research and develop advanced product design process and technology such as design optimization, plastic assembly design, Computer Aided Engineering, advance material testing and numerical analysis (ex. High strain rate, fatigue, creep, residual stress, etc), Metal & PC/ABS replacement design, Plastic life cycle assessments, fractography, Product assessment tools & methods, Benchmarking & Reverse engineering, root cause analysis, etc.
  • Communicate with customers and provide solution feedback on / off line (Investigate, research new technology and find practical solutions for customers)
  • Design experiments, testing methods, CAE (ABAQUS, ANSYS, LS-Dyna etc), Pre & Post Process (Hyperworks, CATIA, ProE, CAE Viewer, etc), schedule and implement it in time
  • Prepare technical reports, data summaries and other technical documents
  • Plan and set up the new equipment, tools at CS Campus, etc.
  • Manage the lab (materials, machines, facilities) and set up SOP (Safety Operating Process Manuals)
  • Schedule and lead product design seminars for customers and training for junior team members, sales, and CS staff
  • Communicate and collaborate with Headquarters on suggestions or given tasks and design/develop the technical road maps

Requirements:

  • Bachelor or advanced degrees in mechanical engineering relevant fields such as Mechanical Engineering, Aerospace / Automotive / Naval Architecture and Ocean Engineering, Precision Engineering and Design, etc. highly preferred
  • 5+years experience of product design, computer aided engineering (FEA/CAE analysis), advanced material testing, numerical analysis or relavant fields at OEM or Tier 1 of automotive, home appliances or consumer products.
  • Extensive experience in developing and designing products, design optimization and Computer Aided Engineering (analysis), reverse engineering, meterial & product evaluation tools.
  • Experience in ABAQUS or relevant Finite Element Analysis (FEA) program like NASTRAN, PAM Crash, LS-Dyna, ANSYS, PATRAN, etc., required
  • Experience in Hyperworks (Hypermesh), 2D & 3D Modeling tools like CATIA or ProE, Fusion 360, AutoCAD, Design X, Solidworks, etc, required
  • Strong background in problem solving, using multiple analytical procedures to identify and characterize product design problems required
  • Experience in advanced material testing or numerical analysis required
  • Knowledge of various thermoplastic materials and evaluation tools (UTM, Fatigue, Creep, High strain rate, Vibration welding, etc), fractography.
  • Must be able to collaborate with product designer and manufacturing engineer group at OEM/ODM
  • Powerpoint, Excel, Words Skills
  • Strong communication and coordination skills
