Applications & Project Engineer Holographix LLC - Marlborough, Massachusetts
Position Overview
Holographix LLC is seeking an Application Engineer / Project Coordinator to support the growth of our custom optical component and photonics solutions business. This role combines technical application support, project management and commercial account management, working closely with customers and internal teams to develop and deliver advanced optical solutions.
Holographix customers are leading innovators in aerospace and defense, life sciences, semiconductor, telecommunications, and machine vision fields. Holographix designs and manufactures custom replicated optical components and assemblies, including diffraction gratings, microlens arrays, optical diffusers, beam shaping optics, and spectrograph modules used in spectroscopy.
The successful candidate will manage existing customer accounts, support development projects, and help identify new opportunities where Holographix optical technologies can add value to customer systems.
The position is based in Marlborough, Massachusetts, with periodic travel to customer sites and trade shows.
Key Responsibilities
Proposals and Project Support
  • Work with internal teams to define technical specifications and delivery schedules.
  • Assist with technical quotations and respond to RFQs for custom optical components and assemblies.
  • Support project tracking and ensure clear communication between customers and internal teams throughout development.
  • Contribute to technical presentations, customer demonstrations, and application discussions.

Sales Support and Account Management
  • Manage assigned customer accounts and maintain strong relationships with key technical and commercial contacts.
  • Identify opportunities to expand business within existing accounts and develop new opportunities in relevant OEM markets.
  • Coordinate with engineering and manufacturing teams to support successful project execution and customer satisfaction.

Technical Applications Support
  • Provide technical application support for customers integrating Holographix optical components into their systems.
  • Work with customers to understand system requirements and recommend appropriate optical solutions.
  • Assist with the design and specification of custom diffractive optics, microlens arrays, optical diffusers, and replicated micro-optics.
  • Communicate technical information clearly to both customers and internal stakeholders.

CRM and Marketing Activities
  • Maintain accurate records of customer interactions in the company CRM system.
  • Occasionally participate in trade shows, conferences, and industry events related to photonics and optical engineering.

Required Qualifications
Education
BS or MS in one of the following fields:
  • Optical Engineering
  • Physics
  • Electrical Engineering
  • Mechanical Engineering
  • Photonics or a related technical discipline

Experience
  • Approximately 1 to 2 years of experience in a technical sales, applications engineering, or optical engineering role.
  • Experience working with OEM customers, instrumentation companies, or photonics products is preferred.

Technical Skills
Knowledge or experience in one or more of the following areas is preferred:
  • Micro / Nano optics
  • Spectroscopy or spectrometer systems
  • Optical system integration or photonic instrumentation
  • Optical manufacturing or replication processes

Soft Skills
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills for customer interaction

Additional Information
This position offers the opportunity to work closely with customers developing advanced optical systems across a wide range of high-technology industries. The role requires both technical understanding and commercial awareness, supporting projects from early concept through production.
The Sales Engineer report to the Sales Manager and will work closely with engineering and production.
The Sales Engineer may also perform other duties and responsibilities as assigned to support the needs of the business.
