From initial planning and expert guidance to custom equipment, system design, installation, and ongoing support, we deliver a fully integrated approach that keeps operations running smoothly.


The Technical Applications Engineer plays a key role in driving revenue growth and delivering mission critical solutions for our customers. They serve as the technical backbone of the sales process-supporting Outside Sales, engineering teams, and end users by providing solution design, product expertise, and fast-moving commercial support.


The Technical Applications Engineer contributes to the overall sales performance for Zonatherm by leveraging customer relationships to deliver measurable increases in our market presence. They specialize in positioning our thermal product lines through local engineering firms and contractors to create product awareness and capabilities resulting in potential sales leads.


ESSENTIAL RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Leads support for data center and power generation solution sales to assist with the application and engineering specifications of our manufacturers' products to drive revenue for our customers.
  • Effectively communicates product line offerings, features, and as the customers' trusted advisor, and is the key resource for technical expertise and product application solutions.
  • Supports and solves all inquiries from assigned customers.
  • Executes selling campaigns, qualifies new sales leads, and coordinates customer introductions in partnership with other sales employees to increase revenue.
  • Provides information on current thermal product availability, pricing, cross-referencing available competitive or legacy portfolio suggestions for addressing customer requests.
  • Generates, updates, and tracks Customer Relationship Management system (CRM) opportunities, and maintains accurate logs of all sales activity/progress.
  • Maintains product and technical knowledge by performing ongoing company and represented manufacturer training.
  • Presents monthly "lunch and learn" sessions with other engineers at various firms to discuss the application and proper use of our manufacturers' products.
  • Assists the sales team with technical support on large/complex thermal projects.
  • Communicates effectively with our manufacturers, customers, vendors, sales, engineering, accounting, service, and distribution center teams.
  • Networks at monthly sales and industry-related social and networking events to educate and promote products and services.
  • Collaborates and problem-solves as appropriate with other departments such as technical support, service, or other sales departments.

SECONDARY RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Comprehends and adheres to all safety, quality, and Company guidelines specified in the Employee Handbook, the safety policy manuals, quality procedures, or any official Company documents. 
  • Other duties, as assigned. 

HOW YOU SUCCEED IN THIS ROLE

  • Proactively provide technical support to the team for thermal and power projects.
  • Own outreach to support customer technical questions and engineering specification concerns. 
  • Support project execution and delivery internally across departments and provide specifications for projects as required.  
  • Enter updates in the CRM regarding leads, customer interactions, support selling campaigns, and provide detailed progress notes on accounts. 
  • Attend social networking, and industry-related educational and promotional events, representing the power and thermal team. 

Requirements

ESSENTIAL QUALIFICATIONS AND REQUIREMENTS

  • Education: Associate's degree in business or related field.
  • Experience: Two to four (2-4) years of technical experience with mission critical systems (HVAC, electrical, power generation) in sales and/or sales support.
  • Technical Skills: Ability to comprehend and design various construction documents and specifications, and familiarity with equipment submittals and shop drawings, meeting engineering standards, applicable codes, customer specifications, all within cost constraints.
  • Mathematical Skills: Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide into all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals. Ability to compute rate, ratio, and percentage and to draw and interpret bar graphs.
  • Communication Skills: Collaborative communication skills and the ability to convey information effectively through excellent written and verbal communication. Ability to listen effectively to understand the needs of internal and external customers. Ability to talk with customers, coworkers, and vendors, and appropriately adjust technical content to meet different audience knowledge.
  • Computer Skills: Strong proficiency in Microsoft Office (Excel, Outlook, Word).
  • Supervisory Responsibilities: This position has no supervisory responsibilities.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS AND REQUIREMENTS

  • Education: Bachelor of Science (BS) in Engineering, Mechanical or Electrical preferred.
  • Experience: Four or more (4+) years of technical experience with mission critical system (HVAC, electrical, power generation) sales and specifications.
  • Technical Skills: Full understanding of electrical and/or mechanical concepts and theory, and ability to conceptualize engineering designs. Must have technical aptitude to develop expertise around our represented product portfolio.

WORK AND TRAVEL REQUIREMENTS

  • Driving/Travel Responsibilities: This position requires regular travel within the Chicagoland area to customer offices during regular business hours. Occasional training is held at various locations, including out-of-state manufacturing locations. A valid driver's license and proof of automobile insurance are required.
  • Physical Demands: While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to sit, stand, walk; and talk or hear. The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 10 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus. Ability to visit and move around work sites.
  • Work Environment and Expected Hours of Work: While performing the duties of this job, the full-time employee will most often be working in a professional office environment, Monday-Friday from 8:00 AM - 5:00 PM. Occasional evening and weekend work may be required as job duties demand. This job generally operates in a clerical, office setting. This role routinely uses standard office equipment such as computers, phones, and photocopiers.
