Position Title: Facility Operations Specialist 1

Classification: Facility Operations Specialist

Salary: $4,738 - $7,247 ($5,067 - $7,751 PERS)

Type: Permanent, Full-time, Non-Exempt

We are seeking a Facility Operations Specialist to join our Office of Finance and Administration at the Oregon Department of Education. This is a permanent position represented by the Service Employees International Union (SEIU).

This position follows a hybrid work model. Onsite presence will be required when business or operational needs are best supported in person, such as collaboration, training, or work that requires access to onsite resources. Employees approved to work remotely must have a reliable and secure internet connection and maintain a professional work environment that supports productivity. While working remotely, employees are expected to maintain the same level of performance, responsiveness, communication, and availability as they would in the office.

What you will do!

Coordinate agency-wide facilities management, including coordination of staff moves, managing archived materials, and surplus services. Additionally, this position oversees the Agency's Safety Committee, manages ergonomic assessments for employees, assists manager in planning and problem-solving facilities issues, and recommends policy and standards for agency operations. Represents ODE at all Capital Construction Projects at the School for the Deaf.

This position offers a positive, collaborative working environment, encouragement to learn and grow, and the chance to participate in direct improvements to the OSD campus.

Typical duties include:

  • Responding to requests for facilities service at
  • PSB Coordinating onsite construction for OSD
  • Leading safety activities for ODE
  • Keeping electronic records, documentation, and reports up to date and submitted on time.

Minimum Qualifications (required)

A bachelor's degree in building construction, industrial engineering or related field AND one year of experience planning, scheduling, or coordinating facility system maintenance and construction projects;

OR


Four years of experience planning, scheduling or coordination facility system maintenance or construction projects.

Preferred Skills & Knowledge (Desired Attributes)

  • Facilities Coordination: Demonstrated experience coordinating facilities operations, maintenance requests, or capital construction projects, preferably in a government or public sector setting.
  • Deaf Culture Awareness: Experience working or collaborating with the Deaf community, Deaf-serving organizations, or in settings requiring Deaf Culture awareness; ASL proficiency is preferred but not required.
  • Workplace Safety: Experience applying workplace safety practices, such as OSHA compliance, ergonomic assessments, emergency or evacuation planning, or safety committee participation.
  • Technical Systems: Experience using computerized maintenance management, asset management, or similar work order and tracking systems to manage requests or maintain records.
  • Priority Management: Experience managing competing priorities across multiple concurrent projects, service requests, or deadlines
  • Communication and Collaboration: Experience preparing written materials such as procedures, plans, or reports, and coordinating with internal staff, vendors, contractors, or partner agencies.
